Does any1 know if we need to know how to do logs on the dat?

You should know the basis of how logarithms work......and I would know some of the shortcuts just in case you get a calculation with them.
Example: pH=-log(H+)
pH=-log(3x10-4)
pH~ 3.7

I know that 1x10-4 is ph of 4 but, how did you know 3x10-4 was 3.7.

Its just an approximation.....The larger the first number is the more it will reduce the actual number.

-log1X10-4 ~ 4
-log3x10-4 ~ 3.7
-log5x10-4 ~ 3.5
-log7x10-4 ~ 3.3
-log9x10-4 ~ 3.1
