Hello everyone. I was waitlisted by a school, that at the time was my top choice. I sent them a LOI stating that if I were to be accepted, I would attend the school. A week later I was accepted and I put my deposit down. However, shortly after this, I was offered an interview at a school (in my top 5) that is closer to home. I was accepted to this school right after my interview. I surprisingly really ended up liking this school and what it has to offer and would love to attend, especially since the school I was accepted to first is pretty far from home. So to sum this up, how bad would it be to decline my acceptance to the school I was accepted to off of the waitlist, that I sent a letter of intent to? Thanks for your help!!

The decision on where to attend dental school should not be made by feeling guilty about previously committing to one school. Go where you want to go. Schools deal with this every cycle and they won’t have an issue filling your spot if you chose to decline. Simply notify the school with a polite email and be done with it. Good luck!

And you made a damn smart decision choosing UNLV. See ya in September!

It’s not personal, just go where you want to go.

The school you turn down will survive. They might shed a tear or two, but they’ll happily accept $300K+ from another applicant.
