After the interview as a follow-up...I was reading the pre-med forums and they talk about them nonstop

so is it bad that i've never heard of this before?

i always feel its a very fine line between showing interest and being obnoxious. i much more tend to sit back and let them make the decision. especially after an interview... if they don't love my personality enough, nuts to them.

I'd be scare it'd be a bit presumptuous (i.e. I don't think an athlete would do a loi for a school not recruiting him, but I may be way off with that horrid example!) Interesting question though! I had no idea that pre-meds did that.

Some of the pre-meds were saying that they send one every week or something...I think if I were an adcom that would annoy me enough to not accept the person

the Western site recommends LOIs/thank you notes

Thank-you notes, yes... LOIs, no, not really. I don't think they'd really make any sort of difference- I'd concentrate on doing the best you can during your interview, and letting that be the impression you leave them with. 🙂
