They also have great health insurance. $400 copay?Genuine question, how much should it cost? Those are staggeringly big bills, but that person also seems to have gotten staggeringly intense care.
As it appears the OP is not a current med student, moving to pre-med.
The American healthcare system is scrutinized a lot, but it's not without its merits. Canada is great for preventive healthcare and early detection but like the US, they have a severe physician shortage. They have to wait years to get treatment for specialized conditions. Doesn't sound so bad until you realize that applies to progressive conditions like cancer too. Those Canadians are heading to the US to get healthcare sooner, even if they have to pay for it. Even in countries with universal healthcare, the poor still get screwed. In the US, you will get treatment sooner, even if you have to take on crippling debt. Also, filing for bankruptcy does clear medical debt. Despite its name, filing for bankruptcy can be a good thing and you can keep your car and house.
This country isn't cooked, not by a long shot. $400 for a life-saving surgery? Sign me up!
You claim to be learning the American healthcare system in-depth but your post doesn't reflect it.
Your point being?even in my post - the patient pays $400, cool day saved! except insurance just got gauged out of 1.9 mil. they're upcoding. if it was CMS, this would come out of taxpayer's pockets lol
Your point being?
Med students frequent the premed forum too. The med student forum is for med students to discuss topics relevant to med school amongst their peers, not a place to come and ask their opinionspre-meds or people in the cycle aren't allowed to discuss med student related stuff? what if I want to ask about clinical research in med school or rotations or smth
You ask it herepre-meds or people in the cycle aren't allowed to discuss med student related stuff? what if I want to ask about clinical research in med school or rotations or smth
