Lol... How often do you check your email in the application cycle

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
My phone displays every email I get on the lock screen with the subject, sender. Constant anxiety man.

At least five time a day.

Every 20 minutes probably, unless in class, research, driving, or on a plane. I've literally never felt this anxious.

I love how this post starts with "Lol... "

As for the question, depends how busy I am at work that day.
Slow days --> SDN, email constantly
On busy days, just once when I leave the lab.

I also find that I rarely look at my email in the evenings, assuming II's dont often get sent after work hours

I borrowed a small computer monitor, hooked it up to my desktop at work, and have it display nothing but my email inbox 24/7. Also have everything go to my iphone lock screen when Im not at work. God I have too much free time...

to end the neuroticism (at least mine), along similar lines as NotASerialKiller, I set up an email address devoted solely to medical admissions and have only it set to push notifications on my phone. Problem solved.

All three of mine have come either in the evening or on weekends.

I bought a 3G phone 5 years ago for residency applications so that I could respond to interview invites quickly, my first 'smart' phone. I remember getting out of a case and because I was an hour and a half late didn't get an interview spot at the place (ran out of slots). Felt so ****ty, but in retrospect didn't mean a damn thing.

I actually broke my phone towards the beginning of the application season, and I am using an older smartphone until the one I want is released. At first I was freaking out that I wouldn't be able to check my email on the fly, but in retrospect I think it's done wonders for my stress and anxiety levels.

I check my email once in the morning and once before I go to bed, and maybe 1-2 more times if I happen to be on my computer during the day.

You guys are so fancy. I still use this:

No obsessive II checking here.

Don't you guys think obsessively checking is less scary than only checking 1-2 times a day? Been travelling cross-country today and therefore couldn't check my phone for a good while. Had a mini panic-attack while pulling up my email to see if any news had developed. I have much less anxiety checking regularly than waiting for it to all clump together and deliver in one fat chunk...

I usually forward my school/work email to my personal email account (what I used for my applications), but I decided to unlink them to reduce the number of phone notifications I would get for random emails. Since then I've gotten 250 emails to my school/work email account. That's 250 phone vibrations that I would've freaked out over for nothing.

my phone just beeps when I get an email so I check it when I hear it

This can happen? 😱 Why would they send more invites than they had slots?

*everyone on this thread increases checking frequency by a factor of 10*

Phone is life. And then I think of the M3s I know.

I check my email every 20-60 minutes, but that's not unusual for me since I've started college. After enough occurrences of receiving emails asking me to bring something to a class that started half an hour after the email was sent, I started checking my email very frequently.

Checking more frequently today because 1) I have free time and 2) haven't heard from a school in 2 weeks.

I would totally not abuse that... 🙄
"have you seen 'The Interview' yet?"
"the winterview at Whistler is breath taking!"

Fun fact: you can forward emails with certain key words (e.g. "Interview") to your text messages. Cuts down on the compulsive email checking by 3000%. Consider that a gift from those of us currently panicking over residency interview invites.

I already checked my email on my phone quite often before applications but now, no joke, I check every minute. I keep watching the spinning Gmail circle refreshing my emails and keep getting disappointed.

It's been over a month of silence for me so the paranoia is kicking in.

Way too often. And I already have my phone set to send me notifications with any emails. Waiting sucks.

Doing that now. Hopefully that helps.

Have my phone set to email notifications, and whenever I'm on my computer I always have my work and personal (the one I use for medical school apps) emails open. Pretty much every time I've been on my computer I'll see that Inbox (1) and freak out and usually it's some stupid LinkedIn email or an email from an airline or online store I use (no, NHL shop, I don't want to buy a T-shirt for $27). Although last week I got an II while just chilling on my computer so that was a great feeling!
