I keep hearing that LOMA Linda's dental school is a deeply religious institution, but I do not know whether it is a primarily sect-based school (e.g., 7 day Adventists), Protestant, or just a general Christian school?

I am Catholic and I do not know whether it would be worth applying if it were a mainly a Protestant school.

You know, you can always check out their website.

The only thing I found on their website is that they require a letter of recommendation from a "spiritual leader" and that they're committed to "following the Lord's example in enriching their local and global community through service." Again, I can't tell whether they're a sect based school, a general Christian school, or a general faith school.

It might help if you re read.
"Loma Linda University is a health science university and part of the Seventh-day Adventist Church's system of higher education. It provides an environment for learning that emphasizes individual commitment to Christ, personal integrity, intellectual development, and community service. Loma Linda University is part of an international Christian organization, dedicated to providing for the medical and spiritual needs of people in all countries."

ughh 🙁... thanks.

A lot of students who are not seventh-day adventists gain acceptance to Loma Linda. They prefer seventh day adventists, but they also prefer students who are spiritual and share similar values. They have the number of people accepted and what their religious affiliations are on their admissions page "student profiles".

Do you have any advice on getting a LOR from a "spiritual" leader in that case? Perhaps taking time to volunteer at a Church?

I think they're looking for people with a long term commitment

Since I'm an atheist, would I be able to use a letter from an atheist leader? I don't want to limit my options

This is absolutely false. If you aren't SDA, you will have an incredibly difficult time getting into the program...unless you have some serious connections within the school.

So funny 😴

Atheism is funny to you and it puts you to sleep? Check your privilege, bro. I have some pretty religious friends and family so I guess it wouldn't be that hard for me to tag along with them and get a letter

Now I don't know if you're trolling anymore or just being ignorant...or both?

Class of 2017 had 27 of 93 people who are not SDA. Although the number of non SDA applicants is incredibly higher than SDA applicants, there is still a chance. A lot of people non-SDA applicants probably have Loma Linda as a last resort because it has lower averages than most schools. If the OP really wants to go to Loma Linda, I say give it a shot.

from the ADEA 2014 guide there were a total of 1967 applicants. If you're saying only 27 people are non SDA then that is only a 1.3% chance of a non SDA applicant being accepted. Yes you are right there is still a chance.... a 1% chance.

Go ahead and apply OP, but like I mentioned before, it would be incredibly difficult to get in this program, not being SDA. Save your $100 application fee or just give it to me.

Is it hard to become an SDA? Do I have to go through some physical alterations?

I thought that it is not that hard to become a SDA, especially if one is already a christian. I think some people would consider it, not for me though, at least this cycle😉

You seem like the type that would sell your soul to get ahead in life lol

The thought crossed my mind. Going to church on Saturday instead of Sunday is not that bad. Just sick of worrying how I look at the interview, how my hair looks, if my suit is professional enough, if I am presenting myself in a good way. F, I am really tired of that

You just have to practice your interviews. You'll become more confident with enough practice.

On the same vein, I am religious however not Christian, would it be not advisable for me to apply then even if I have a strong letter from a religious leader?

Thanks so much for the helpful statistics. I have been looking through the Loma Linda website trying to find this breakdown, but I can't seem to find it anywhere. Would you mind linking where you found this on the website? Thank you!
