check this out

I got rejected from loma linda yesterday, which I can accept, so iam not whinning, but in there letter they said-->

My GPA and DAT were not competitive enough for their incoming class which had averges of

GPA 3.42
Sci 3.33
DAT AA 18.5
DAT PAT 18.3

my stats
GPA 3.44
Sci 3.34
DAT AA 20
DAT PAT 17

With the exception of PAT how are my scores not competitive??????:😕 😕

Call them and make them try to explain that to you over the phone. It would be nice to see what they can possibly respond with.

sorry.. your PAT is too low for them. 😡

If you are not a sevenday adventist, you have no chance (or very little) to get in Loma Linda. My brother got rejected by Loma Linda last year even though his stats were: AA 23, Sci 24, PAT 20, GPA: 3.85, Sci GPA: 3.97. So he ended up... going to UCLA instead. Some of his friends in his dental class at UCLA were also rejected by LLinda while they got accepted by all other schools that they applied for. His friends think that LLinda don't want to accept those non-sevenday adventists who are smarter than their students because that just makes their sevenday adventist students look bad. How many of us applied Howard University and how many got accepted? I know their average DAT of last year's class is about 15

I think we need school like Howard, Meharry and LLU. You should know what the school preference is on acceptance. How many people are complaining that they got rejected from Harvard? They have there preference as well, and I did not apply to there.

Along with seventh day adventists, LLU focuses on members of their church in Korea especially, according to a dentist I shadowed one day. He said that about 30% or more came from there. If you look at LLU's stats it has asians as the second biggest ethnic group accepted. They do give preference to SDA's, although being religious in general (i.e. living the lifestyle their religion teaches like no alcohol, drugs, premarital sex, etc.) is a factor too. This is according to 3 dentists in my town who graduated from there (not SDA's).

It's kind of funny how they say these DATs are not competitive. I know of someone who got accepted with 17 AA and 16 PAT. These schools are just saying those kinds of things for one reason or another....

Yeah, they want us to be truthfull but they say such thinks as, your DAT sucks and their average is 18-19?s. They should just tell the truth; you are not SDA or you do not have the spiritual whatever to attend this school.

Why does everyone wanna bash on Loma Linda? Just because they didn't accept you doesn't mean they're a crappy, prejudice school! Maybe you weren't what they were looking for. Of course they do give preference to SDA's, the friggin school is founded and run by the SDA Church. What do you expect? It's a private-religious school. They focus on other things besides dentistry, as do other schools. They don't want dental students whose whole weekend consists of getting drunk and trying to get laid. If you don't want to live by the standards the school sets, then why even apply? It cracks me up when people get on the anti-religion bandwagon here. If you're not religious, you have a snowballs chance in hell of getting into LL. So, if you aren't religious, just don't apply, because I dont wanna here anyone else all pissed off because they were rejected from LL because they have no real religious background. That's one of the boundaries set. You should know what you are getting into before you apply to certain schools. Would you apply to Harvard if you had a 2.9 and 18/17 on the DAT? I guess my point is...quit complaining!!!

Don't worry about it. That is probably a general letter they send out. Temple sent me a letter saying my stats were not good enough and they recommended that I get a master degree.

Well my stats, like yours, were at their level or better and I DO have a master degree (~3.7).

I kinda scratched my head in wonder and said oh well since I had other schools to pick from.

Raider,

I appreciate your honestly in regards to LLU's admission preferences. What has bothered all of the applicants is not the rejection but the dishonesty of the admission committe and the way they use the grades as an excuse. The original poster as well as many other applicants do have competitive scores according to LLU's standards, but they are not SDA. I find it very funny that their PAT scores of 18 and 19 are not competitive, yet some applicants with 14 or 15 are so more competitive that LLU has its own manual dexterity test for them at the time of interview.

With all the respect,

Comet

Brocnizer2007 !
How did you react to Temple?
I also got a letter from them.
I do also have a Master's degree, but they recommened to have the degree.
they mixed up all our applications.

Well I really didn't care bec that wasn't my top choice. Now if NYU or Nova sent me that letter...man would I have a talk with someone.

LLU made a little bit of $$ this year huh?
so many applied thinking that they would look at the whole package and not just religion.

boy was i wrong with that pick.

but then why would they wait till DEC to start sending out those rejections?
maybe a little x-mas gift according to them?

The Adventists do not believe in X-mas. They say it originated from pagan holiday. 😀

Anyway, I got rejected by LLU even though I had 24/22/22 DAT score, 4.0 post bacc GPA. (My undergrad GPA is horrible, however) I'm gonna write them a letter saying I'm a SDA and see if they would change their mind and give me an interview.

Wish me luck.

Acutually a lot of the principles of X mas as well as Easter have been derived from pagan rituals/holidays, that is just a proven historical fact not just said by the SDA church
...Also If you tell them you are SDA they require a letter of confirmation from an ordained pastor of the church.

Did your rejection letter come after an interview with Loma Linda?

I also applied there but never turned in my secondary application. They wrote in their email that if I don't return it in a certain number of days that they will assume I would like to withdraw. I was just wondering if I'll be getting a letter soon too.

No, they were saying I didn't have to send in the secondary application... They thought my GPA was too low.

But, if they ask for the secondary, and you don't return it for so long, they would consider your application withdrawn, as they said... Not interested in going to LLU?

All this talk about being SDA is hilariously funny. It always amazes me how dead wrong people are sometimes.

Uhhhh.....we DO celebrate Christmas...Christ's birthday?!? This is not some strange cult religion. We're just normal Christians.

I go to LL, and obviously am an SDA. I have many non-SDA classmates. Yes, they are all OK with being at an SDA school. Many are pretty religious and like being here for that reason. Look, you definitely have a shot at getting in if you're a non-SDA. You DO have to have a belief in your religion that they pick up as genuine. You also have to have a winning personality, not to mention the whole grade/DAT thing.

If you don't like it...then don't apply. All the dental schools on the West Coast have vastly different personalities. We all know the stereotypes. So stop bashing Loma Linda....it's supported by the SDA church, so what do you expect?? If there were a Mormon dental school...you better believe I wouldn't have a chance in HELL of getting in!!

I have 2 SDA friends. They both told me to convert to an SDA for the admission purpose and then go back to who I am after I become a dentist. This really shocks me! Maybe this is how it is or what. By the way, they will apply next year and the last place they want to go is LLU. Just a fact that even SDA are not happy at LLU. Wish you all a happy new year!

I interviewed at LL about 2 weeks ago. I am not SDA, so when offered the interview, I thought, "wow, I am special!" My interview went great w/ Ms. Silvia. She did ask me some personal questions, but it certainly didn't bother me since I thought they would only get to know me better w/ these types of personal questions. All in all, I had a good interview experience.. and the issue of religion definitely came up! Like I said, I am not SDA, and they know I stand strong to my religion...my interviewer even told me they are not out to convert anyone, that it's a misconception. So all in all, I like the school and thought the staff is real nice. Will have to wait and see if I'm admitted.

How did you react to Temple?

Hey guys,

Was the letter from Temple right after sending in your application? Or did it come after interviewing? If it was after an interview process, just wondering how my chances might be because they asked me to come by for an interview and I know my GPA being a 3.0 is less competitive than a majority of the applicants.

i have many friends who got rejected to llu and they had outstanding stats, i actually had a friend who got accepted to llu, but he also got accepted to harvard, he went there. if you are non sda or religious or do not drink or commit adultery you should be ok... as long as you have good morals and strongs show it.... my friends think that in professional school, religion shouldn't play a factor of your ability of becoming a successful dentist..... but i do like the schools mission statement. there are too many dishonest dentist out there making lots of money, and this school may not have the brightess student but hopefully good students of high morals..... i don't know why i replied here, since i didn't even apply to llu because i knew the facts and saved my money to by some drinks. peace ya

Some people think these kinds of school are discriminatory but honestly I think that if a couple of people get together and start an educational institution that is 100% owned, operated and funded by themselves, then they should retain the right to admit whoever they want based on whatever rules they want.

It's just like saying that I own my house and I will let whoever I want in it.

Before you wonder if I have an ulterior motive, let me say that I am not Christian. I know that their policies will make it extremely hard for me to get in even though I have stats well above their averages.

On another topic altogether but also discussed in this thread, I really dislike schools that send out nasty rejection letters. I have found in my experience that it is the usually the least competitive school s that send out rejections letters that flat out tell you that you are stupid to go there. The more competitive quality schools usually send out a nicely worded encouraging (as much as that is possible) rejection letter. These less competitive schools, I get the impresssion, also have an upper cut off where they don't take people who score above certain numbers. It's funny how sometimes a school that is your safety school rejects you with a letter telling you that you are a *******.
