So if you dont know already, Loma LInda has one of the worst reputation in terms of how strict they are.

Fact:

It is a Seventh Day Adventist(religion) school

You are not allowed caffeine. Hence you cant drink coffee, Coca cola, or nothing. And you guessed right, there's no soda machine on campus.

You can't eat meat. AT ALL

You cANNOT DRINK ALCOHOl. if you get caught, you get kicked out of school. no joke.

Every week, you have to attend church. its mandatory

Before every class, you have to pray together as a class

You are asked on the secondary the name and phone number of your personal priest from your church(they assume you are SDA LOL).Also, they literally ask you.... do you drink alcohol?

90 percent of admitted students are Seventh Day Adventist students.

Seventh Day Adventist religion was created after a "prophet" failed to predict an apocalypse.... just like that ******* Camping.... who failed to predict Rapture this past month LOL

Anyway knowing all this.... Should i apply to this school?????????????
Is it even worth the try? im not SDA. Yea i sound critical about Loma linda but im still seriously thinking if i should include this school on my list.... im desperate to the point where i would go to anywhere even if that means i have to give up soda.

My gut response is to suggest that you keep your caffeine and soda and move on.

yea but my GPA is not that good... thats why im desperate lol

This isn't a statistic...just me making stuff up.

I would think the remaining non-SDA people are likely very religious people. I've heard they like the UT crew (not just UT, but those of the LDS faith). That might be because they're robots with their stats and those rules wouldn't be that big of a lifestyle adjustment.

i know.. i know... such dilemma.... im thinking what if i could be that 10 percent? LOL

I think there is enough schools out there where you have a legit chance to gain admissions, I dont think this is one of them. What is ur list of schools you will be applying to?

If you ask yourself those questions, Loma is prob not the right school for you. You are going to be there for 444444 years.

I agree. Those 4 years are not going to be 4 years. Rather, they will feel like 40,000 years. Apply to schools you enjoy, and would gladly attend.

Im in the medical program at Loma Linda (second year going onto third year), non-SDA, and from personal experience have never had any problem bringing meat onto campus. It's true that the hospital and cafeteria don't serve real meat but there are still shops nearby (In-n-out, Panera, grocery store, etc.) where you can get it.

It's true that there is no caffeine sold on campus, but Starbucks and other places are nearby if you want coffee or soda. I have classmates who drink coffee and have seen one of those glass Starbucks frappucino bottles in class...don't think there's a problem there either (as least, not that I've heard of but I haven't really looked into it).

Yes, some of my teachers did pray before lecture but some do not. It depends on the teacher.

You do sign a lifestyle agreement before matriculating stating that you won't drink, do drugs, etc.

I believe that a majority of my class ascribes to a religion (usually some form of Christianity is my impression) but from what I've heard my class is maybe somewhere around 50%-60% SDA (not sure) but definitely less than 90% SDA.

Maybe the health programs are different, but I would assume not that different. Just curious, where are you getting your facts?

I'm just curious...What state are you from?

Wow, could you exaggerate any more?
So if you dont know already, Loma LInda has one of the worst reputation in terms of how strict they are.
With misinformation like this, it's no wonder.

Fact:

It is a Seventh Day Adventist(religion) school
I think this is the only thing you got right.

You are not allowed caffeine. Hence you cant drink coffee, Coca cola, or nothing. And you guessed right, there's no soda machine on campus.
WRONG. They do not SELL caffeine on campus (although there is one soda machine in the school of dentistry that sells caffeinated sodas). You can BRING anything you want to drink.

You can't eat meat. AT ALL
WRONG. Even the SDAs will tell you that not eating meat is not a requirement for the SDA religion. Again, they do not SELL meat on campus. You can eat meat or bring meat if you want.

You cANNOT DRINK ALCOHOl. if you get caught, you get kicked out of school. no joke.
This is true, albeit exaggerated. You do sign an agreement that you will not drink, smoke or do drugs. If it is found out that you have done any of these, you may be brought before conduct committee and may be suspended or UP TO dismissal from the program. I know this for a fact because I am on conduct committee. LLU requires this because their belief is that all three of those things (alcohol, smoke, drugs) are unhealthy and their mission is to promote health. Not too unreasonable, actually.

Every week, you have to attend church. its mandatory
True, but exaggerated. First of all, you don't have to attend the chapel service every week because you get 2 unexcused absences. Second, it is only for the D1 year and most of the D2 year that you do the chapel. No chapel over breaks. Finally, the chapel services are really just some hymns and a talk, and NO ONE forces you to participate or even pay attention. I personally would rather not go, but it isn't the worst thing in the world. 50 minutes right before lunch on a Wednesday is not unreasonable.

Before every class, you have to pray together as a class
WRONG. Some instructors say a prayer at the beginning of class, some don't. You don't have to participate in that either, just be respectful.

You are asked on the secondary the name and phone number of your personal priest from your church(they assume you are SDA LOL).Also, they literally ask you.... do you drink alcohol?
Again, exaggerated. They ask for a recommendation from a religious leader (they do NOT assume you are SDA) and yes, they do ask you about your experience with alcohol and drugs. If you answer truthfully that you have used drugs or alcohol, that doesn't mean they automatically reject you. I know at least one graduate who admitted to having previous issues with drugs and was completely non-religious.

90 percent of admitted students are Seventh Day Adventist students.
WRONG. At least not in the SoD.

Seventh Day Adventist religion was created after a "prophet" failed to predict an apocalypse.... just like that ******* Camping.... who failed to predict Rapture this past month LOL
Not being SDA, I am not inclined to respond to this statement, but you should be more respectful.

NO. stay away. We don't want you.

I second all that Lemoncurry says.

Unfortunately in our current world, having I think they are called "Morals", is frowned upon.

The OP's post is ignorant and disrespectful.

They probably play subliminal messages during lecture and brain wash you. If you are not mature enough to show a little more respect, you should not apply to dental school anywhere.

wow wow tell me exactly how i am ignorant and disrespectful???

i got these facts from my roommate who went to Graduate shcool in Loma linda. simply stating the facts. so my sources are credible

religious ppl are so sensitive and get offended so easily. chilax

Alcohol
The University holds that a lifestyle that is free of alcohol, tobacco, and recreational/illegal drugs is essential for achieving this goal. University policy is that all students are expected to refrain from the use of tobacco, alcohol, and other recreational or unlawful drugs during the period of their enrollment at the University....Students are notified of the University's abstinence policy during the application process and are responsible for complying with this policy while they are enrolled in the University. Failure to comply with this policy will result in discipline up to and including dismissal.
Pornography

Sexual Conduct
We believe that God's ideal for sexuality is achieved when sexual expression is limited to a man and woman who are husband and wife committed in lifelong marriage. All expressions of premarital and extramarital friendship are to be chaste, and behaviors which would suggest otherwise are to be avoided. All forms of sexual expression and conduct between heterosexuals outside of marriage, or between homosexuals, are contrary to the ideals of the University and will result in disciplinary action. Further, all forms of promiscuity, sexual abuse, and exploitation are contrary to the ideals of the University and will result in disciplinary action. Loma Linda University honors an ideal of sexual purity that transcends mere legal enforcements.
Chapel service
The following are required to attend the scheduled chapel experience each week:
D1 students, Hygiene students , D2 students, International Dentistry Program students
Meat & Caffeine
Although only vegetarian meals are served in all campus food centers, and vegetarian nutrition is stressed in the nutrition department curriculum, students are not required to abstain from either meat or caffeine.

thank you jeffity. see what i mean????? so many rules!

If I were YOU I would not apply. But I personally loved the school and my interview there, then again I am religious but not sda.

Thank you all for the inputs. I decided yea i will not apply.

First, they wont give you a much chance unless you are SDA. Second, There is no way in hell im going to fake my way through dental school for 4 years. acting religious, and giving up my freedom? NO WAY. Im such a rebel i will not be able to be contained in a box like that.

Wherever you go, there will be rules. There will be rules from your state dental board. For example, did you know you cannot have a romantic relationship with a patient? Damn rules, man, wtf? There will be rules from your dental school clinic, such as taking care of periodontal treatment before doing any restorative work. Friggin' rules, man. I want to start making grillz right away!

Any monkey can adhere to the rules given by LLU. I already explained the truth of the rules. If you don't have the maturity to handle what they expect, then by all means don't apply to LLU. Please just stay away. And if your contempt of rules extends beyond what LLU requires, then I prefer if you just stayed out of my profession altogether.

U MAD BRO?

hey it was one of your fellow Loma Linda student who gave me all this negativism toward Loma Linda. Hate on her foo. peepo of SDN need to know what kind of school Loma Linda is

and they should hear it from you?

dude let it go. if anything youre being immature for overreacting so much. u making loma linda look bad. i seen your posts before... youre always so negative toward peepo. being a moderator doesnt give you the right to abuse your power on this forum. what's troubling you son? have a positive outlook toward life.

LOL I love it how you are asking if you should even apply....? what makes you think you can even get into Loma first? Get in first then ask this question.

+1, haha. No offense but there is a large chance you'll be flatly rejected, look at the raw numbers. This applies to many programs...

Hey so I was recently accepted to LLU and I'm not really religious, so I was wondering what the lifestyle was like there. Do people tend to dress more conservatively and refrain from wearing makeup and jewelry? Also, what do people do for fun there and what are you supposed to do on Saturdays when the University shuts down once all the church services are over? Finally, at my undergraduate school everyone was always studying or just hanging out at the library, is it like this here too? I was shocked when I heard the library and the lab work stations weren't open 24/7, especially during the exams periods. Thanks!

So if you do not have great status and wanna stay in Cali, LLU is a mean to an end and will make you a good dentist. Just keep in mind that you should prevent all the bs go on your nerve and stay open minded because a dentist should care for all humans no matter what they believe in.
I personally could not see myself handling the bs and did not apply there.
Good Luck:luck:

is this school very religious?

define "very religious." If your definition includes religious images in various locations, occasional prayer to begin a class, required attendance (not required participation) in a 50 minute generic chapel service, campus closure on saturdays, and a general effort to be good people, then yes, it is "very religious."

If you mean that they try to convert you or force you to drink the kool-aid or reject science in favor of all things biblical or people walk around with a holier-than-thou attitude, then no.

lolz.... pretty sure he was talking about the first one.

Look I dont know where you get your info but with a juvenile attitude like that I dont think any graduate or professional program would want you. Ill admit LLU wasn't my top choice among my interviews until I visited the place. The staff was friendly, the interviewer asked me normal questions(no gotcha or oddball stuff), the students were top notch, the clinic was solid, and above all they fed us a delicious meal.(something most other Dschools fail at)
The only things you are really sacrificing by going here is 50min of your week, booz, drugs, and tobacco. Oh darn.......
This is the only school I went to that actually felt like a university... Everything you need is on site, even a gym.👍

Oh the trolls on this forum keep me coming back for more everytime. I think the only negative things I can say of LLU is the lack of a 24hr study place and a study area during the weekends, other than that don't think i could have made a better choice.

Do you know if they drug test the dental hygiene students at orientation? I'm
not a drug user, but I use prescription drugs, do I need to tell them that?
