Wondering what peoples take on Loma Linda is? Aside from the religous aspect and the location, I hear that the clinical aspect is top notch. Also, its pretty cheap for a private school. Like to know your opinion.

I interviewed on the 2nd and really was impressed. I didn't have the greatest impression going in, just cuz of the area (it has a reputation of being very smogy). However, the day I went it was gorgeous outside. The people were very nice and it had a very warm feel... which I attribute to the religious aspects. The facilities were not phenomenal, but they do emphasize clinical experience and that, with the caring feel of the school, make it a great choice (in my opinion). All the students I talked to were glad they were there (and the one that gave me a tour was not an SDA).

A ucsf grad told me similar things. Many of his friends went there.

I am half way through my junior year at Loma Linda. The facilities are not the best, but I have seen a lot worse. Besides they are constantly making improvements and we do have everything we need. Prior to coming here I had quite a bit of exposure to the profession, and even though I am biased I agree that the clinical aspect is top-notch. Also your clinic exposure begins almost immediately once you arrive. Another bonus is a tremendous patient pool, I have never had a problem keeping my books full. Most people get hung up on the religous aspect of the school, but as far as the student body goes there is just about every point on the spectrum represented. The faculty is great and they treat the students as almost peers. That may be because of the Christian aspect, but I really don't care, at least they have never spoken down to me and they do everything they can to build thier students confidence...which means alot the first time you take a bur to a tooth or lay a flap. Anyway, I love it here.

Thanks for the insight! I'm actually attracted to the religious aspects although I'm not SDA, but protestant. Do you think that puts me at a disadvantage for acceptance?

I am not SDA. I grew up Baptist and now tend to be non-denominational.

thanks for your perspective tokenokie and others

I just interviewed there. They really don't care about ur religion as long as u have a religion. Yes, the clinical program looks really good. The students seem nice. The labs are old but the clinic is pretty new. However, the school doesn't seem to be fun at all. All the professors, faculty are old white men. They are religious and traditional and they talk on and on forever. There is just a dull, boring aura to the school that I don't like. Also 1 more thing, if you are gay, stay away from this school.

While KobeInnocent is certainly entitled to his opinion, he is wrong about a couple of things. The faculty at Loma Linda is extremely diverse. As for telling gays not to apply, at least 3 of my classmates do not hide the fact that they are gay...of course I wouldn't reccomend interveiwing in the same outfit you would wear to a gay pride parade. As for not being fun? I guess that is relative. My friends and I have Hella Fun, oops sorry, Hecka Fun. After all, you are about 45 mins from the beach, 45mins from LA and all it has to offer, 1 hr from skiing at Big Bear, Las Vegas is about 4 hrs away, San Diego and Mexico are 2 hrs south, and if you happen to like the desert its about an hour away too. We have parties and texas hold'em tournies, we play intramurral sports, we go on road trips together. We are an extremely tight knit class, there are few cut throats and gunners. We also get the chance to pick from several locations from all over the world to go and provide dental care to people in need. At least its kinda' fun.

It's always interesting to me how people compain about Loma Linda being made up of "religious" people. Yeah, then you might not want to got there then. It's like saying I don't like the Democratic party because the people are too liberal, or I don't like going bowling because everyone there likes to bowl. It doesn't hide the fact that it's religious. You can take it or leave it. I just find it funny when people apply there and are dissapointed that it's religious.

I got called Friday for an interview at Loma Linda, guys please offer your kindly help here, should I schedule for 15th or 22nd, if 15th I would have to push my final earlier, if 22nd I'm concerning about the possible delay in decision because of Xmas. Oh I am confused, also anybody know about the percentage of successful rate in interview?

You are saying something about decision making in late Dec? If you are talking about the admission decision, here is some info I can provide you:

Sandy webb told me that they wouldn't have any committee meeting scheduled until Jan, even in Jan, still haven't set a date.. there will be one probably after the deadline of the first deposit.

Do well on your final and relax..

I honestly don't know the successful rate... but since you are invited, I can tell they are HIGHLY interested in YOU. On my interview day, the Dean told us that all of us invited that day are VERY SPECIAL people who passed their brutal screening process...

Anyways, good luck on your finals and interview

I hope so mwsung. I appreciate the input, and yes I will relax since I don't have to stress about the final now.

does anyone know if loma linda has sent out acceptances because in the acceptance thread only one person has posted that he got in and it could be because he knew someone in admissions that told him. does anyone know? thanks.

Thats great to know that the students there aren't boring like the faculties. But this is a direct quote from my interviewer. "Loma Linda is not for everyone. If you are gay, you would know to stay away from this school." To me that sounds very anti-gay but I am not surprised since it is a religious school.

I interviewed Nov. 23, got my letter Dec. 3. It was postmarked Dec. 2. Thin letter with gold seal return address, single acceptance page inside.
