I have been looking extensively at applying to UGA, Western, and possibly Tufts this October. Now it appears my husband may be transferred to London! Does anyone know about the schools there? Or how the financing would work? From some preliminary research, there appears to be a few school, but financing looks tricky, I'm not sure if I'd be eligible for student loans. I guess I would just have to take the boards when I come back. Is that correct?

I applied to Edinburgh this year and was accepted into the second year of the five-year program. At this time Edinburgh does not do interviews while Glasgow, as I understand, does. This could possibly be a factor if you have interview anxiety or would like to save on plane-fare.
Edinburgh does hold an optional information session and they will have an East coast and West coast venue. This year the West coast venue was in Portland. I will say that they definitely allayed any fears I had about Edinburgh being an inferior program when compared to American schools so please do not be party to this idea as I was. I truly believe that their program is excellent and at this point they are very excited to have American students.
I think that in the past there has been feeling that going abroad to veterinary school equals an inferior education but I do think that this idea has largely dissipated, at least where the European schools are concerned. I have heard some negative things about Ross and similar programs, however I do not want to give these schools a bad rap because I really know very little about they have to offer.
I have decided against Edinburgh mostly because of the logistical difficulties associate with the move as I am married and have lots animals, but if you are single it could be a great adventure and excellent time to live in another country.
Hi. I have repeated above part of one of my earlier posts taken from the thread: Going abroad to veterinary school? You might check out what people have been saying in that thread. Above I was talking about the Scottish veterinary schools, but I assume that the quality of education (in my opinion excellent) would be very similar in London. I do know that both Glasgow and Edinburgh are accredited by the AVMA which make practicing back in the U.S. relatively easy. To my knowledge the veterinary school in London is not, but I could be mistaken.
I am not sure about financing. If you check the acceptance/attendance thread you will see that there are some people who are considering going to veterinary school in London. You should try to get in touch with them and see if they can help you at all.
Good Luck!

Hey Switters,

The Royal Veterinary College, University of London is AVMA accredited, so you take the same tests as American grads.

Check out these sites: http://www.rvc.ac.uk/ http://www.atlanticbridge.com/vet/index.htm

RVC is about $32,000 per year, and we can get Stafford and private loans.

Good luck.

Just as a side note, London (RVC) was the first of the UK schools to become AVMA accredited (followed by Glasgow in 1999 and then Edinburgh in 2001). They have pretty large classes (I think larger than Glasgow's) and take a lot of American students each year. It's a great school, and I've spent some time at their equine hospital (got credit for it).

You have to apply through the Atlantic Bridge programme, not the VMCAS though. (Type Atlantic Bridge into Google, that's all I know about it).
