Man, the info on that site is amazing. Why can't other states follow Texas's lead? It seems so logical and coherent.
Is it difficult to find a job down there?

From what I was told, Texas tort reform legislation is based on California's legislation. However, Texas has a lower cost of living than Cali. Also, docs in Texas had to compromise to get tort reform here by allowing the TMB to have even more oversight sometimes at an unfair disadvantage to docs in Texas. Regardless, I would love to come back to Texas after residency and fellowship.
A friend of mine just took an OB/Gyn job with Scott and White, just outside Austin. From the details he told me about the job, it sounds great. Pay is around $250k, call every 5th night, good group, minimal high risk OB. Excellent benefits. Another friend of mine also took a general surgery job with them.
It is hard to lump all of Texas into on basket. I am sure there are private practices having a tough time with the malpractice scene, but there are plenty of other good opportunities.
Texas has traditionally had good reimbursement. The state has quite a bit of money, so if you have a hard time finding a good job there, dig a little deeper. Try calling some hospitals directly to see if they have openings. Some of the best jobs in medicine never make it to a job board, you have to go after them.
