Man I'm glad I'm coming up with these issues before school starts back up again.

First, I feel lonely. No matter how many friends I've got in med school, it seems like everyone is busy to a certain extent. Living by myself, it's very very quiet... but I suppose in the fall I can join some group and do things out in the community. Right now I just feel kind of lonely but I know it's just a phase.

And what about those days when you just don't FEEL like studying? I've got these chapters to go through... Of course it happened to me last year and I just kind of pushed myself to do it. It wasn't fun. Is it really going to hurt that much to take a day off here and there 2nd year? Even if it means I'll fall behind by a day, I don't know if I can put myself into so many constraints again like I did last year....

Hang in there!

I'm not even going to describe how I got by in second year. Burnout is a very real phenomenon.

you will start doing less and less work and find that you still do great

hahahaha though i'd say instead of "great" it's more like "acceptable" for one reason or another.

Now when it comes to the loneliness aspect of things I understand exactly what you mean. However I don't honestly have any real good advice. If you have a significant other or date people that I think would make things easier. Sounds like you have friends and do things every now and then. So yeah just try and hang with friends more. You don't have to do quiet as much work as you probably think.

I felt like that a lot when I was a first year med student. Lonely, overwhelmed, and anxious. I then decided to live with med students from my class and that was even worse!
Second year, I decided to live in a giant house/almost a mansion with a bunch of people I had met at a party. Some of my housemates were public health students, one was a nutritionist, a lawyer, a statistician, three med students from another med school in the city. I had my own room and my own bathroom and shared the common areas. Living there was great. I stayed there until the end of internship. Those years were some of the best years of my life and my housemates are some of my closest friends. I got to hang out with them and go out and they did not stress me out. I could come home and vent. It really really helped. If you can find a bunch of awesome normal people from other programs to hang out/live with, I'd say go for it. Also just fyi, in med school, every year is a little bit better than the year before. Fourth year will be just awesome, so you have a lot to look fwd to. :luck:

This sounds awesome. And you matched into optho so seems like living in the mansion with all those people didn't affect your grades detrimentally, probably helped with handling the stress and stuff.

No such options for me here but I love your attitude and thanks for sharing!!
