It looks like I will have to choose amongst some of the Long Island programs to interview at, since I don't think I will be able to keep all my current interviews. Any big plusses or minuses with LIJ compared to North Shore or vice versa. Also, I'm assuming that Stony Brook woudl prob be better b/c it's a University program, as oppoed to more of a community one, but can anyone comment on this?
Thanks so much

I don't know anything about Stonybrook, but a couple of things about LIJ and North Shore: they have the same chairwoman and are both known for being solid programs. They are community programs, but are affiliated with great academic programs as well - LIJ - Einstein, North Shore - NYU & Einstein. I don't know anyone who has rotated through North Shore, but people who have rotated through LIJ as third years say that the residents are impressive and enthusiastic and are happy overall. People who know the programs well have told me that you get good training at both.

I'm at Stony Brook (PGY2) and I love it here! I did my second and third hysts today...did you see that I mentioned that I'm a PGY2 ~ and it's only NOVEMBER?!? I think that's pretty freaking awesome. We are the only University Hospital in Suffolk County so we get EVERYTHING. All the high risk OB stuff you can imagine. We also have some extremely well known GYN ONC staff that give us an amazing experience.

But seriously, this is the best example of my day. Wander over to OR5, just to see what the GYN chief is scrubbed on (I'm on ONC). The attending (private attending, not faculty) asks what I'm doing and then asks if I want to scrub and do the hyst. When I looked at him and said that it looked like the chief was already doing it, he said this ~ "go scrub and you can do it together...I'll just watch." So that's what we did. 😀

I love my colleagues, everyone is very close ~ we go out pretty frequently, celebrate each other's birthdays/weddings/babies! And the faculty as well as the core private attendings are awesome. 👍 👍
