Try this for fun, Do a search on your old posts - I did. It was really interesting to see how my concerns have evolved over time from "will I get an interview?" to "what interviews should I take and what should my ROL be?" to "When the PD says they love me, do they mean it?"

It is pretty funny! When I was an M1, I actually had an account "Quinn," I can't remember the password on it so a few years ago I had to start a new one... but it was pretty funny the stuff I talked about.

Back then, SDN had FAR less traffic, there were no specific specialty forums, and it was mostly osteopathic students.

Unfortunately, I have been several different "characters" since I first started posting on this board in 1998 (it was www.osteopathic.com)...now I am pretty mellow. I bet I have easily posted a couple thousand posts. Heaviest in my 1st and 2nd years in med school...funniest character was "wheatfarmer"...

ahh yes, wheatfarmer . . . those were the days 🙂

Coming up on 4 years for me too.

Remember:

RBorhani and Adrianshoe............they answered all of my questions on EM residency back then. (back when I was PRE-MED).

Yeah I remember them both!

Actually AdrianShoe was the reason I began posting on SDN. Rumors of his posts about NSUCOM (my alma mater) were a flurry during my M1 year, so I quickly came to defend the reputation of my school (me, the all-knowing M1!). Whatever happened to those two? Did they do EM residencies?

Res Borhani, was the AMSA pres who later did EM at Peoria...a reason I interviewed there.

Ya know...when I was a 3rd year medical student, I said something controversial (made a comment about what the president of our school looked like...raccoon eyes) and the Dean emailed me and threatened me with action. I emailed SDN and they said they would protect my "rights to free speech" on a public web page.

I went by code names for the rest of the school year.

Ah, that's right! I remember when I was looking into programs there was a DO at Univ of IL Peoria, its all makign sense now. I knew there was some subliminal reason why I looked into that program a lot during my 1st and 2nd year of medical school. Got offered an interview late in the season but turned it down. Oh wait I forgot Dr. Squillante was one of the moderators on this site. Maybe that was why.

In retrospect, I probably shouldnt' have made my screenname so dang obvious... I would have more fun I think if I were anonymous....

Q, DO

My favorite really old posts were in the pre-allopathic and allopathic forum asking if anyone was out there. I'd say that 99% of the people posting all the way back then have either moved on or are using different screen names for whatever reason now.

I have been through at least five different screen names, the original being DavidGreen.

After getting into a nasty web duel with Klebsiella (circa April 2002), I was kicked off the site, so I started up with another David Green type of name.

With my new screen persona, I accused SDN of violating my free speech rights. They threw me off again.

I started a third character and a fourth character, who continued to taunt SDN with comments like: "For every David Green you kill, a thousand more will rise to take his place," and "If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine," (paraphrase of Ben Kenobi quote).

Finally, SDN gave up on throwing me out. I have been Hornet871 ever since.

The Klebsiella Wars were interesting, though. A lot of people took my side against him and also admonished SDN not to continue throwing me off the web site.

A few people began "Bring David Green back!" campaigns.

One of my most ardent supporters was Dr. Cuts, with whom I still maintain occasional e-mail correspondence (I don't know if he frequents these parts anymore).

(Sigh), that all feels like so long ago, and I have grown old.

p.s. my real name isn't david green.

Yes I am old.

I am old too. I have enjoyed perusing this bulletin board sporadically since well before I entered medical school. Somehow I managed to keep the same account, though I did change my username once during the brief period that it was allowed to do so. As an MS4 anxiously awaiting black Monday, I have found the residency forums a great resource as I have trudged through this ridiculous ordeal along with everyone else.

I remember when SDN first started. It was a lightly trafficked forum with about 5 seperate forums. At some point in time, the user base began to explode and tons of new forums were added. SDN is still unquestionably the best resource out there now. The only thing is that 90% of the stuff written is pure garbage. However, the remainder is worth it's weight in gold. You just have to search through it all to get what you need.

The only thing that disappoints me sometimes is the level of moderation out there. Time was back on the old sdn and the old mem when a flame war was just part of the game. I am not planning on going out there and insulting anyone anytime soon (unless of course they deserve it) but there are a couple of moderators round these parts that take their job a LITTLE too seriously. That's all.
