Longnecker Anesthesiology

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just came out not too long ago-got a free copy from the mcgraw hill book rep; thus far, I find it to be a very informative book-lots of color like baby miller; user friendly; decent chapters on pain and regional

Longnecker's book was the shizzle 15 years ago. I have read some of the previous ed and it was really good. I'm not familiar with this one but chances are it's good.

I have given it a very cursory look about a week ago. It appeared to be of excellent quality. I looked up one topic and it was an easy read and very informative. Great photos and illustrations. An A-list of contributors. I suspect it is excellent. The only downside is it weighs a ton.

Any other opinions? This is the main book that our program gave us.

This is the book we got too. So far, I think it is pretty good. Informative and relatively easy to read. It is a monster...not something you can carry around.

One thing I don't like is that there is no dedicated cardio/pulm physiology sections; you've really got to dig through the book to piece together what you're looking for in that regard.

I'm still trying to decide if I'm going to use this as my master text or if I'm gonna go with Miller or Barash.

Love the book. I had a pre-release reviewers copy and really was impressed. Its like a mix between miller, M&M and Barash. The unfortunate thing is the size making it only useful as a desk reference.

I got it free from our program. If I feel like looking something up in an encyclopedia-like textbook, it does the job. Obviously it is so big that, like Big Miller, most of the time I don't crack it and it just sits on the shelf. Like Big Miller, it's one of those books you can probably finish residency without reading (much) of, so long as you have smaller more digestible books to get you through.

In summary, it's more of a desk reference and as such seems okay.
