I am a foreign trained pharmacist, got registered in October,i can't simply get a job in MD.I put in application almost every day,i call PDM's,send out emails,no luck,i'm not looking for Visa sponsorship,i'm a citizen, you're right, yes!!Why would someone not give me a job?
I'm planning to take a Tech job at CVS if that would help. What are your suggestions, you are my only hope?

Unfortunately, that's the American job market nowadays. Just a few years ago, anyone with a valid license could get a job almost anywhere, but that isn't true any more.

🙁

Relocate. Northeastern US is super saturated. Even students from U.S. colleges are having hard time finding positions.

TBH I don't even know if you will be able to find a tech job :/ Why would a pharmacy hire a pharmacist to do technician work :/

I also heard China has a huge shortage of pharmacists as well.

And if you can get a job in China, then you will have a leg up on all the competition when China takes over the world.

Can't believe you guys are so racist. No wonder the whole world hates Americans because of this type of attitude.👎

Job market sucks right now for pharmacy. I've seen job offers/postings for technicians more than for pharmacists. It is also dependent on where you live. Big cities/states=lesser opportunities. You might choose to relocate or wait and see approach. Most websites are like a black hole. Your resume goes in and and does not come out. I'm licensed in 3 states and still having a hard time finding anything concrete. Things are different now. My prediction is gonna be worse and going down hill thanks to older pharmacists not retiring and too many people attending pharmacy school.

Please do not throw around the Racism card. No one here was being racist. Yes there were some jokes made, but those jokes were far from being racist.

What would you like us to say? Someone already posted a similar explanation to yours in the comments. Also there are only like 4 other job related threads active in the forum atm.

I wrote a really long post and realized you're not a pharmacy student, lol wow. Not sure if I can offer help to a pharmacist except I do think the job market is not well, and that is true even of students like me.

I don't care if they're so white that they make the assassin from The DaVinci code look like 50 Cent, I'm not thrilled with the idea of bringing in foreigners to take jobs in an already saturated market.

Yeap...people think you are anti-American if you are for jobs being sent overseas, but you are a total racist if you are against foreigners coming in and taking jobs in America. Yet, they net the exact same thing, one less job for someone born here.

I mean we do need foreigners to take some jobs, such as many of the Mexican immigrants who work on farms and such. Mostly because many Americans just refuse to do that type of work. However, we do not need educated immigrants coming in and taking jobs that require many years of education to acquire. As the education system in America puts many in debt trying to get that education to compete. Just wait for when the Chinese see some real progress in their new college system. They are going to be pumping out grads and sending them everywhere. (I was not joking about getting a leg up for when China takes over the world.)

Paragraphs and periods, please. Text walls are really hard to read. Thanks.

Please edit . You need coma, period... and so on.

I can't get over how poorly some allegedly well-educated people write.

Try Rite Aid in Maryland. They hire the most foreign pharmacists around here. Try to differentiate yourself from all the other foreign pharmacists who don't even pretend they want to counsel or talk to Americans. I find that many foreign pharmacists also are rude or disrespectful to women because of their particular upbringing so you should pretend you respect women. Don't talk to them on the phone as if the sole reason for their existence is to produce an heir, cook you food and clean your mancave.

I got the impression that the OP is a woman. Most of the foreign pharmacists I've encountered, whether IRL or otherwise, were female.

The best example was transferring all the prescriptions to or from Florida for the snowbirds. It seemed that most of the retail pharmacists there were Asian women who spoke almost no English. 🙄

I'm a chauvinistic pig. A woman's place is on the kitchen counter not the pharmacy counter. The problem with women is that they can't handle stress at work. When my techs are all guys, my work flow is so smooth and easy. I don't need to tell the guys anything. They get their work done without saying a thing or complaining. When I work with women even the pharmacists, every single one is on their rag and take it out on the customer. I tell them to do something, they start breathing all hard or give this loud exhale. There are lots of technicians that are single mothers. They know pharmacists make 55+ an hour and they are miserable with their job and kids. In my head, I'm thinking you should have used plan B or went to school. Then they start talking about their significant other. I'm like why on earth did you get married then get a divorce.

I always read SHC's posts with the voice of an Asian lady in my head.

Have you considered Singapore? PM me or email me at

The pharmacy field in Singapore is growing very rapidly and is a very exciting time to be in....👍

lol how much are they paying in singapore and whats the board requirement? I wouldn't mind living in singapore for a year or 2 if the pay and everything is like U.S.

Well, even if they do, you will probably need to be fluent in both verbal and written Chinese, as well as learning all the Chinese drug names and technical terms.
