Hey all, new member here so sorry if this should be in another section. me almost finished up with this app cycle just waiting on a few replies back. It's looking like me not going anywhere this year and me was just hoping someone might be able to tell me how me can improve to be more competitive next year. Me currently have a 31 MCAT (07 VR 10 PS 14 BS) a 3.71 GPA and 3.82 science GPA. Me participate in around 3 organizations in my school being on the board (treasurer) for one. Me volunteered at a hospital previously in the summer as well as shadowed transplant surgeons at Johns Hopkins for two summers.

Currently, me am applying to some post-bac programs (Georgetown, Temple and Drexel currently) but me was wondering if anyone else has any recommendations? Me sort of going on this path because it seems like the best thing to do. Me know submitting my secondaries late (nov-dec) was a big factor in me not getting in anywhere, but me want to be as solid as possible for next year.

What schools did you apply to? Did you aim too high? Honestly I don't see how you have a lot to gain from doing a post-bac -- your cGPA and sGPA is already high enough -- unless you have certain courses that you got a C in? As for your MCAT, a 31 is fine, but the 7 VR does seem to be kind of unbalanced. Do you feel you could score much higher on a retake?

I would suggest using your time wisely such as improving your personal statements/activities so there is a cohesive theme telling the ADCOM who you are as a person. Also, have you considered applying for research positions? (Not necessary but good to have). I think you are on track into getting in somewhere next application cycle, provided that you submit on the first day possible and finish secondaries within 2 weeks of receiving (preferably less with pre-writing).

Was your school list a generally good match for your stats? With a 3.7 and a 31, you should have at least had a decent chance of getting some interviews if your school list was accurate. For reapplying, focus on turning in your primaries and secondaries as soon as possible, your nov-dec turn in date likely hurt you greatly. Other than that maybe look to get either some research experience or work in a patient care setting. If you feel you can do better on the MCAT for sure, you can retake if you want, although it shouldn't be 100% necessary for mid/low tier schools.

That 7 is tough to overcome, epescially when it is compared to a 14 BS (great job there btw!). I bet it's what's holding you back. I would NOT do a postbac. Your GPA is solid.

Work on your ECs by doing research, volunteering, etc. Retake that MCAT.
