Does anyone else think that we need to know the sens /spec of common lab tests that we use everyday? For example, something like elevated lipase? what is the sens/spec for the cut-off points at which we decide it's elevated and diagnostic of pancreatitis? Or am I being naive and thinking we can't really use this information in feeling more sure of ourselves?

Having a reference book just seems easier than PubMedding everything! I saw a student carrying around a book called Bakerman's that seemed promising, but I barely got a glance inside, and when I did the sens/spec numbers didn't jump out at me.

thank you!
