Iam preparing to apply to dental school this may 2008 and I am looking for an admissions conusltant/advisor to help me with the application process. Iam looking for someone who is meticulous, available, and knows what alot of these schools want. I need someone who lives and breathes dental school applications. Can anyone recommend someone in the NJ/PA area who will work with me on a personal basis? Thanks for all of your help. Feel free to share any peronal experiences that you have had with the advisor you are recommending.

what's the pay?

on a more serious note, a lot of all this is independent research...apart from my advisor at my undergrad university, i researched alot on the web and read lots of threads on sdn.. i ended up sharing alot with my advisor just so she could help other future applicants...

i'm in PA but i don't know of any "admissions consultants". i wouldn't waste money on such a thing anyways. the admissions process is costly enough. that's why SDN exists... you can get all your questions answered here for free.

My school has a decent pre-health advisor, but I want to have an alternative source as well. Yes, sdn is very resourceful, but I want to work with someone on a personal basis. Kaplan offers a package-$1000 for 10 hours, they work on the interview process, personal touches on the essay, and actual application. The only downside to this is that you can only communicate with them through email or phone. I want to be able to meet with this advisor in person. Are there any consultant firms in PA or NJ to help with the dental school process?

Pay me well and I will open the door for you 😀

yes, i've heard of essay writing firms who will correct/ help you with your essay. but i've never heard of one who will actually walk you through your application

i have never heard of consulting firms that help with this...has anyone else?

nope. nothing other than that kaplan stuff which i think is a supreme waste of money. the thing is the majority of what gets a person accepted (GPA, DAT, and ECs) has nothing to do with a consultant. if a person's grades and DAT scores suck, a consultant isn't going to make a person's chances any better. as far as the interview goes, just act like a real person. don't try to memorize prepared answers because your interviewer will see right through you. off-the-cuff is the best way to interview. that is how you will be interacting with your future patients.

Thank you for the tremendous feedback. I have a solid GPA overall and in the Sciences with plenty shadowing hours and hands-on dentistry course at Penn already completed. Great letters of reccomendation from the practices and Penn. I havent taken the DAT yet. I just want to get in on the first attempt and not waste a whole year trying to figure out what I could have done better-so I just want to cover all the bases if you know what I mean. I have met with the admissions coordinators of all the schools I plan to apply to and have gotten on their mailing lists. I dont know what else to do other than perform spectacularly on the DAT's.

You don't need an admissions consultant, you need this website. Do a search for any info you're looking for, and all the information you need and more will be at your fingertips.

I second that, if you really want to become a dentist just do your own research. There really isn't too much to worry about and there are a lot of SDNers willing to help or make suggestions when needed. If you want someone to hold your hand, heck I bet you can find someone here to do that too.

Maybe we should get you fellas that link to the singles SDN part...

For the guys singles thread=PM CaliGirl15 😍haha.
Oh and to the OP you don't need to pay anyone...seems like your an intelligent person and between SDN and a little of your own good research I think you'll find everything you want to know, and lots you probably don't. Good Luck next cycle your on the right track already!
