Hey guys, I'm new to this forum but have been browsing it lately. I've started looking for a new direction in life and thinking that I may want to be come a doctor. I've made a lot of bad choices and just started taking lots of steps to correct myself so that I can have a chance at becoming a doctor.
I graduated from UW-Madison school with a Zoology degree with a 3.25 cumm and 3.0 scgpa. I didn't know what to do with my degree so I went to Law school at the same undergrad institution (top tier law school) for 1 year. Did fairly well but was not enjoying it. I transferred to a PharmD program at same institution because several of my friends were in the program. I was 21 at the time. I didn't enjoy the program and did poorly in it and left.
I took some time off, bummed around, worked for some time and finally decided to go back to school to find something in the healthcare field that I would enjoyed. At 29 years old, I went back to get a 2nd degree in Nursing, graduated with a BSN and magnum cum laude status (3.77 cum). I've been working as an RN in general medical, ICU, Oncology, post cardiac cath floor. Just this year, I applied to the DNP at UW-Madison and was accepted as a student into their primary care/ psychiatry program, but I'm starting to have doubt that I will always want more from myself and would ultimately want to be come a DO/MD.
I'm a very good clinician, and articulate myself very well in interviews and before people. I've studied the pathways of DO/MD and it is something that interest me. I'm also an ethnic minority here in Wisconsin, and a first generation/refugee student.
I've just started studying for the MCAT and was hoping to find advice from Attendings/Students about what I should do. Should I apply or not base on my history or just accept the admissions from Nursing school.
Degree(s): BS Zoology (3.25 cgpa, 3.0 sgpa), ABSN (3.77 cgpa)
School: UW-Madison (Zoology), Bellin College (Nursing)
Healthcare Exp: RN, 1 year of work in general medical, oncology, ICU, Cardiac Cath
Community Services: Medical Interpreter, Involved in my community, participated in Undergrad Research all 4 years of undergrad, some research presentation, research scholar award, Active in clubs. Trilingual.
Thank you.
