Hello SDN! New user here.

Lately, I've been wanting to research medicine, particularly medicine that affects the brain. I have done some searching on various degrees I could possibly take but can't find any that are specific to my desired field. Is this even a career? I am a bit fascinated by the brain and medicine that can affect it but I am completely new to the field of the Medicine.

If there is a degree program, will my low GPA in an unrelated degree affect my chances of entering into it?

After finally realizing what mental issues I may / may not have, the small bit of motivation and hope that finally seems to be shining through seems to show some semblance to a life in Medical Research.

You would need to get a professional degree, ie Masters, phd, MD.
You could go into counseling for mood disorders.
You could go into neurology.
Actually manipulating and touching the brain would be neurosurgery.

Neurology seems to fit my interests.
Are there any students thinking of taking Neurology here?

Are you interested in more academic neurological research, or being a physician of the brain? If the former, look into neuroscience and neurobiology programs, and continue your education to the PhD level. If the latter, major in whatever you have an interest in and can do well in for undergrad (assuming you don't have a bachelors degree yet) and prepare for medical school. For now, the best thing you can do is start reading online about neurology as a medical specialty, neuro sciences in general, etc.
