Hello, I am looking for some feedback on my stats. Also, advice/what to focus on. What do you think of my chances? I made it on the waiting list at one school so far, not sure what to do next. My stats are:

University: University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire
Major: Biology B.S. Mn. Kinesiology
Overall GPA: 3.47
Pre-Req GPA: 3.24
GRE: Verbal:156 Quant: 152 Writing: 4.0

Extra-Curric: First Book, Kinesiology Lab Research Participant, Jumpstart, Future Teacher Club, and Kinesiology Club

Volunteer: 27 hours outpatient, 21 hours inpatient

I suggest as much experience as you can. The rest of the stats look pretty good, but I definitely think getting more experience in a variety of settings will help you tremendously

At this point in the application cycle, there's not much you can do if you've submitted everything.

In the case that you aren't accepted this cycle, I would suggest upping your inpatient and outpatient hours. 40 hours is pretty low - You'll want to be in the 100-300 area to indicate your seriousness in choosing PT as a career.

Also, your GRE scores could use a bump to be more competitive - Perhaps taking a GRE course might up your scores just a tad?

But for now, wait and see - You may not need any help at all if you get in to the other two schools on your list 🙂

I have somewhat comparable stats to yours...The exception being your PT observation hours..Keep in mind too that I was a transfer student from a community college and I retook some classes which hurt me a bit..my retakes brought me about to a similar GPa as yours but before the retakes, I was down a bit...I posted my stats below... But yeah, I personally think you could use a lot more hours of observation for sure. Does your program require you to do an internship? At MSU, the Kinesiology program requires a 240 hour internship during senior year. I did mine at a local hospital for inpatient orthopedics. Before that internship, I had roughly 80 hours..60 of it was with Outpatient Ortho and 20 was Inpatient Acute. Make sure you not only are getting lots of hours in, but make sure you observe in different settings...Observe at nursing homes, school settings, outpatient ortho, inpatient acute, inpatient ortho, inpatient and outpatient neuro....Always remember, observing 100 hours of a mixed bag of settings is A LOT (put even extra emphasis on 'A LOT') A LOT better than observing 100 hours at one outpatient clinic. And if a school that you want to go to has a minimum of 120 hours, remember that that is a minimum only and is not necessarily what is 'competitive.'

Very glad to see you do research though...that helps a TON too in my honest opinion...If you can get a rec letter from one of the staff members of that research lab, that will help drastically as well!

At any rate, I got accepted to Andrews University this fall. I was put on the waiting list for Northwestern. I was denied by CMU, GVSU, WSU. and OU in Michigan here. I am still waiting to hear from UM - Flint as they moved me on to their 'next round' and should hear from them any day now. It was tough but I got accepted somewhere at least...

your gre is fine, don't waste your money to take a class and to retake the test, that's silly. instead, focus on getting more hours in a variety of settings, like others have suggested. have everyone you can read and really critique your essay. more importantly, if you don't get accepted anywhere, contact those schools and get explanations so you can make your application more competitive next cycle. good luck

Like the other posters have suggested, I'd for sure get more experience in the PT field. Try and observe in as many settings as you can.

Last year I was wait-listed at my 2 top schools so I called and spoke to the admissions director of each program and they were able to advise me as to what I could do to increase my chances for acceptance the next cycle. It may also be beneficial for you to contact the schools and talk one-on-one with the admissions chair (or others) because that way they know you're very serious about your application.

👍More experience in the PT field: Some great news is that I lined up an interview for a personal care worker position. A great resume booster. I'm hoping that a PT will be on staff to work near. I will have to ask the supervisor.

👍PT experience: Goal-bump up to 100-300 hours with VARIETY of setting if possible.
