Hey everyone!

I did not get my license yet, still need to take mpje, but I passed the Naplex and wanted to start applying for jobs now.
What do you think is appropriate to write in the resume to explain that one has not received a license yet, but has passed the naplex?
Any ideas??
I am so lost, but I thought it would be a good idea to apply now because it takes time for employers to go through resumes...

What do you all think? 😕

I think you're about 6-12 months late for the party. Most of the new grads are hired. I was looking into residency programs in October last year. Our school holds the employer/career fair in February. Most employers willing to take new grads will hire them as grad interns with the expectation that they'll get licensed ASAP after graduation. Sorry to be blunt, but yes, I'd apply yesterday if I were you.

For students who are graduated in the US, it could be possible to secure a job right after graduation but if you are a foreign graduation, no agency would hire you before you get your license. Esp these days..time is tough, companies cutting their budgets,.etc.

i am waiting to pass both NAPLEX and CPJE to apply for a job. I am a CA pharmacy grad last may. I have been a rite aid intern but last month they told me i don't have hours anymore. I was layoff just like that. I went to a job fair back in december from my school; no offers at all. I am applying to a couple of places but no luck. What do you guys think about the job prospect for pharmacists? I am from the Riverside area. but when i apply i told the recruiters i would move, but they told me there is no openings.

When I was looking, I went to the websites to see where the jobs were and applied through the online application service of target, wags, and CVS in the areas where jobs were listed as available. Wags had something in Big Bear, and other areas near the IE. I'd put the application in and see what happens. Where'd you graduate from in CA?

How am I 6-12 months late?
I only graduated in May. None of my classmates were applying for retail jobs 6-12 months before graduation. That was only for residencies.

From my experience the first question the agencies ask is " are you a license pharmacist). I think there will be a job for every one.. So there is nothing like "it's too late". As long as you are willing to relocate you will get one eventually.

Interesting. By my school's results, you are late. Most if not all of my class have jobs now aside from the few that haven't been able to find one because of the saturation of the market. By the time of graduation, people had jobs lined up already. Places hired before licensure was completed. I got my job 2 months before getting licensed. You just have to notify the employer of your status and that your license is pending. They will set you up as a grad intern at a reduced wage until you can practice as a pharmacist.

I applied for Walgreens back in May but they told me they have no openings. I applied via online and talked to a DM. I called Walmart but no openings either. I graduated from Loma Linda University.

Yeah, it is very difficult to find a pharmacist position in the state of CA right now. I've talked to 3 different DM's at a major chain and all said that jobs are sparse and only floating positions are available and you are not guaranteed 40 hours.

Can you imagine what is going to happen when the students of 2012 graduate. It is sad to say but most will be without jobs. The demand will officially end in 2012. 🙁

I think there is a lot of truth to what your saying. However, there will always be openings for good and quality pharmacists. For example, good communication skills and pharmacists that can help grow the business for these chains. The employers are much more selective because they have a bigger pool of applicants now. Before all you needed was a pulse and a license, this is not the case anymore though. By the way, incompetent pharmacists are regularly being written up these days for quality issues and eventually fired if they don't improve there performance as a pharmacist. It makes sense though with a bigger pool if it was my chain I would want the best talent as well.

I'm not saying 6-12 months before graduation, I'm saying 6-12 months before you made your post. That would have been between September and March. PPS at ASHP is in December, USC's career fair (for non-residency positions) was in February. How could LLU not have lined up DMs from various companies before graduation to discuss where openings were? I'm not sure when your classmates started looking, but most of my classmates (including the ones not in residency right now) had jobs lined up at least 1 month prior to graduation. For the ones that didn't, it wasn't due to lack of looking, just lack of jobs.

Remember that DMs only cover a limited area. You may need to branch out to other districts or ask the people you contact if they are aware of jobs in other districts besides theirs if they say there aren't any jobs in their district.
