Hey guys,

my science and pre-req gpa is very low the way PTCAS calculated it, since they do not use the repeated course grades only, instead they average everything.

I've called the schools i got rejected to and they all have been because of my GPA. I have everything else, high GRE, good experiences, etc.

So my question is, do you guys know any other schools that have easier GPA requirements that are non-PTCAS, because

1)i'm assuming they will have less applicants which improves my shot right off the bat
2) they will look at the gpa calculations the way my schools have calculated it, instead of the way PTCAS has

Most schools do their own GPA calculations and/or will average out repeated courses. This includes schools that use PTCAS and those who do not. If I were you I would consider searching for schools that look at your last 60/90 units.

thanks for the reply, my GPA actually went up and down a lot so doing the last 60-90 specifically would not be very helpful for me.

I know that schools so that, however i think most of them are still looking at the PTCAS calculations because the numbers they have been giving back to me when i called them have been the exact same as the PTCAS.

At the very least, i think if i do non-ptcas schools, there will be less applicants so my chances will improve. i don't seem to have any shot through PTCAS schools, as i have been rejected too a good amount already through there, the only 1 i did non-PTCAS i got an interview for. so i'm curious if ppl know of others that were good to apply to with low gpa requirements

St. Augustine and San Diego State. How did you fill out the portion on PTCAS that asked if your GPA reflected your academic strength?

PThopeful123 : what are your stats ?? and what school did you get a interview at ?

thanks, i'll take a look at those two. I explained a few different reasons why, health issues, as well as that i did not know i wanted to do PT until a few months ago. since then, in a few months time, i have gotten over 400 volunteer hours, retaken 3 classes got an A, A, A- in them, studied and taken GRE. i think i did a good job of stating why. i also wrote a little bit about it in my personal statement.

i'm pretty sure however, most of these schools are tossing out the application right when they see the gpa is below their minimum. I talked to one of them, and they said they don't look at the apps if it is below

question though, aren't state universities like san diego state very bias to in state students? I know that the state schools by me in new jersey take almost 100% of their class from in state.

My stats ;
total gpa 3.08
Science currently 2.36 ( will go up a tiny bit since i just got an A- in physics)
Self reported pt prereq gpa 2.6 (same will go up tiny bit)
gre: 160 verbal, 159 math, 4.5 writing
volunteer experience: 400 outpatient spread across 2 clinics
-will be doing 20 inpatient at hospital in jan
work experience-personal trainer 2 years-trained one on one clients, group fitness classes, sports teams, ran assessments, help run special events

rejections thus far all ptcas; touro nevada, drexel, umdnj-newark, elon u, nazareth college or rochester,

only non PTCAS app i did so far was to umdnj-stratford, that's where i got my interview at. umdnj-newark and umdnj-stratford are very similar just different campuses, so i think the reason i got the interview at stratford is mainly bcs they got less apps bec. it was not on ptcas, also bcs i'm pretty sure they looked at my grades and gpa just how they were, not the way ptcas calculates it.

Aside from that, pretty much all the rejections i got so far, all the schools said it ws bcs my gpa was too low, even touro nevada, which as far as i can tell has the lowest gpa requirements for all the ptcas schools

i would be very surprised if schools that used ptcas were doing their own gpa calculations, it just doesn't make sense to when ptcas does it all for you, especially considering all the work and time it takes.

hopefully i'll get into umdnj-stratford, but they aren't making calls till end jan early february, so in the meantime i think my best bet and maybe only chance of getting in somewhere is to find some non-ptcas schools that have easier requirements and apply to them.

i started researching them, but was curios if ppl already knew some that would be good to apply to

Thinking of where to post that I finally got an acceptance letter and I think in here would be best. Yesterday, Christmas, I got an acceptance letter from D'Youville College. They are a non-PTCAS school. They want a $500 deposit by January 19th though and for some reason their acceptance is first come first serve so I am sending out this deposit as soon as possible (tomorrow latest). I'm still waiting to hear back from about 14 other schools but since D'Youville College is the only school that has given me an acceptance so far, I have to make sure I secure them, so the deposit is a no brainer.

wow, huge congrats🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂
what were ur stats like?
which schools did you apply to?

for the non-PTCAS schools, how did you send in the reference letters, i feel bad continually asking my references to send it to other places, is there a way to do it electronically, or just a more efficient or easier way in general?

Thanks. My GRE stats are really low, so I feel about my GRE stats the way you feel about your GPA. You can see my stats and most of the schools I applied to here: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=967640

Schools left off the list on that page are Seton Hall University and Gannon University which by the way are also two more Non-PTCAS schools.

References letters could be a head ache for Non-PTCAS schools but they were all through email for the 3 non-PTCAS schools that I applied to. I too kind of felt like a jerk asking references so many times to send references to schools. I'm still waiting for a reference from one person for 2 schools. He says he'll have it done tomorrow, been trying to get it since early December.

Good luck.

I believe the deadline for D'Youville college had passed already but nonetheless congratulations!

Yes, i'll have to look into other schools, does anybody know about the state school thing i mentioned? Is there a point in applying to them if you don't live in the actual state, bcs they are pretty much only looking for students that reside in the state...
