Hi all,
I'm a US medical graduate, switching residency career from Anesthesia to PMR. I've already completed my intern PGY1 year. Due to the timing, I missed the 2015-16 Residency Match, but I'm planning to apply for the 2016-17 match. If anybody know of a spot that become available before July 1st 2015, please let me know.

Also if anybody know of a research opportunity with a PMR Department in Texas, please let me know as I'm very interested. I believe BCM has a lot of funding from NIH, but I'm not sure if they have a research position available. I have good board scores and good reference letters, both from my former Anesthesia department and from PMR department at my school. Please respond here or PM me if you know of any research position available in Texas. Thanks for reading.

First of all...great choice! PM&R is an excellent specialty.

You are likely to find out about an open spot when ERAS re-opens next cycle. They will be labeled "Physician-only". Fortunately for you, BMC/UTH has had quite a few physician-only spots over the past few years. It is one of the few PM&R programs that is a grind. Their residents are tired and worked. It's a fantastic inpatient rehab learning experience...maybe the best. I interviewed and was very impressed with their facilities and academic structure. It was not a great fit for me however, as I did not like Houston, didn't think it was a good fit for a young family, and was concerned that it may be too academic and inpatient heavy. But there is no question that it is a strong program.

I would contact BCM and UTH's program coordinators (there is one for each at this time). Also notice that both Dallas PM&R programs are pretty strong, and UT San Antonio is also a stronger categorical program. UTSW Austin is a newer program and there isn't much out there in regards to the strength of the program...but it does have nice facilities, a very good program coordinator, and Austin is a very underrated city. I would contact all of those program's PC to look into research options. Most of the programs have a research division...but I would prefer to be on the PD's radar from the very beginning...and usually going through the PC is the best way to do that.
