Looking for research related activity

The easiest way would be to talk to your science professors to see what kind of research they are involved with and see if they have any spots available.

Hi mockingbird22:
I would recommend you to really talk to your professor about helping in the lab. In my own experience the professors at my university are pretty nice and friendly. As long as your CV looks legit and you sound enthusiastic about volunteering, I am pretty sure your chances are good.
It would also be pretty awesome to start reading and understanding about medical journals, because you probably will need the knowledge in med school and basically you pay for it in your tuition. My friends and I are actually starting this project called HBRnews; we read some medical journals and write about their medical applications. It's kind of new, but we are also recruiting more people.
Hope these information help!! 🙂

I heard that doing non-science research is also good. I spoke with a couple of people who did basic science "research" and they weren't that satisfied with their experience. For me at least, I don't see myself working in a lab. Someone recommended me to look into medical anthropology research. does this sounds like a good idea?

What are your interests?

Chemistry labs are pretty sweet. Also, medical sciences is pretty awesome.

But like the person above me said, non-science ones are just as cool. I would personally liked to have been apart of a sociology or a neuroscience research group, although it is a bit outside of my degree.

Best of luck.

I wasn't satisfied with working in science research my freshman year. I didn't like having to work my way from the very bottom (washing test tubes) in other to climb my way up to actually being more involved in research methodology and hypothesis testing. I signed up as a research assistant for a psych lab instead and really enjoyed working directly with professors on refining their procedures. I'm also more of a people-person. Running experiments with live participants was more of my thing. Something you might want to consider if you're not interested in science research either 🙂

My school offers research positions for-credit, or you could email the professors whose work you're interested in and ask if you can join the lab. Neither require prior lab experience, though some would like you to have taken certain classes beforehand.
