Hi.

I'm looking into DO. I am a canadian citizen so I think that makes this process harder, especially since there is no such thing as DO in canada.

Got a 3.84 GPA and a 29O and 28Q MCAT (VR never above 7). I really do think that the medical profession is for me. Any advice?

I've been looking into it and it seems like you need a DO reference. However, I have no way of obtaining this, seeing as there are no DOs I know in Canada. Is this a critical part of the application process, or would they understand b/c I'm canadian?

Any canadians out there who have gone the DO path? Any insight?

Some schools you don't need a DO reference. You sound like a good candidate, I would give it a shot. Good luck to you!!!

Just get an MD reference and submit it in place of your DO reference.

I agree, just get a reference from a MD--most schools will consider that sufficient. However, you should make sure you understand what Osteopathic medicine is, in case they were to ask you about it or your desire to enter it. As for Canada, I am pretty sure that there are DO's in Canada. There are some parts that don't allow them full practicing rights, but for the most part, I think they are fully accepted. However, I could be wrong--it did happen once (j/k).

Good luck and if you have any questions about AZCOM feel free to ask.

You will have to take all the Canadian boards to be able to practice in Canada if you move back there. Its expensive and its another set of friggen tests.

there's a student from toronto at DMU

Most DO schools will be fairly leniant about the DO LOR thing, especially if you're from a country where they are hard to come by. For your info, DOs can and do practice in Canada, however, as mentioned above, each province has their own licensing requirements. But, most provinces allow DOs full and complete practice rights. Three students in our class (AZCOM) are from Canada: 2 from Alberta, 1 from Ontario. Hope this helps!

Are you in my class--i.e. Class of 2007?
