Hi I'm about to be a senior at the University of Sciences in Philly interested in PT
-2.9 cumulative GPA (Was Pharmacy)
-3.0-3.3 program specific GPA
-Took 110 credits to date
-Haven't taken the GRE yet but planning on it soon
-Trying/Hoping to attend a PT school after my fourth year

My top choices would be a PT school in New York above all but I'm open to schools in adjacent states. My question is what should I do now? My classes for my last year don't look too rough compared to the other three and I can stay at my school after my fourth year if I get my GPA to a 3.0. What would I need to get both semesters if I wanted to get that? I've been on ptcas and most of the places are saying the GPA min is 3.0 but I still want to try. Is it worth all the time and effort? or should I just bank on the school I'm at right now? I don't want to leave it all to my school because if that doesn't work out I have nowhere to go. Any feedback would be great, even if its the harsh truth! Thanks!

I'm well aware of how difficult pharmacy can be, however your stats are pretty low as of right now. But you always have a shot! If you read around on this forum there are many people in the exact same situation as you are. Here's my advice.... Get your GPA above a 3.0, kill the GRE and get great LOR's. You didn't mention anything in your post regarding shadow hours? Those are often a huge part of the application so if you haven't gotten started on those you will definitely want to do so ASAP! Best of luck!

I did a lot of shadowing hours couple years ago and this past summer at an outpatient office and at a nursing home. And a lot of places ask for 2 letters or recommendation but I can get them from plenty more people, should I send more than 2 LORs or just stick to two? There's a couple therapists who said they could and I also have a couple professors and my advisor are all willing to write a letter...which would be the best people to get letters from?

Retake some classes at your local CC to boost that pre-requisite GPA. That's a critical metric for success in PT school. Study hard for the GRE. Volunteer more, especially in an ALF, SNF, or hospital setting.

Your LORs should come from one science professor, and two licensed PTs. Don't worry about your overall GPA. As long as your pre-req GPA is high, it won't hurt you.
