The professor that I wanted to have write my LOR for science can no longer use my university’s letter head since he left the school and is no longer a professor there. Should I find a different professor to write my LOR ? How much does the letter head affect the letter? Any advice would be great!

Note: this professor is my ochem professor who’s class I did really well in. Additionally, tutored for his course at the university I went. I would prefer him to write it over any other professor for these reasons.

I feel like a letter from someone who knows you well and who's class you did well in will be a strong letter -- regardless of letterhead. The letter writer would say where he taught/you took the class. I'm not an admissions person, but this seems like a bad reason to find a new letter writer.

I agree. The content of the letter is what makes the difference. Some letters are very generic, leaving the reader wondering if the writer even knew the student. If you have someone who can write a good letter for you, by all means, ask him or her.

Thank you for the advice! I was just reading the amcas LOR info and they said that something about schools require the letter head so I was wondering about it since I wasn’t so familiar with the med school applications

If your professor is now in another university or company, it is okay to use the new letterhead of his/her new employer. Just make sure to have him/her state that you took a class with them at xxx university.
