So my friend has an interview at PCOM end of March (I guess I'll be going to WVSOM, happy but scared about the big move). He has 5 LORs in a committee packet (2 science prof, 1 math prof, 1 humanities, 1 MD), and then a DO LOR sent to schools later. He wants to send another one from the postdoc he is working for right now, and maybe another one from a DO he shadowing.

Is that overkill or good? Also, do you guys know how many people PCOM interviewed this year and what his chances are of getting in so late in the game?

Disguise?

I was complete pretty early at PCOM and am yet to hear anything from them. They weren't a top choice for me, but it would be nice to get some closure from them! Although solid LORs are useful, I do not think that sending an additional 2 more LORs will help out anymore.

Im matriculating at pcom this fall so I will answer this. While I dont know how many people they interviewed I can tell you there were about ten in my interview group. Being an instater at PCOM is huge...and while I cant remember the exact stats, a huge portion of in staters are accepted after interview. I have an inkling (especially since I was just at PCOM dropping off my deposit and spoke to the admissions office people) that their class is significantly full. I dont want to make you lose hope...but its a lot more difficult to get accepted this late in the season. You are already accepted to WVSOM so it wont be a huge deal either way. (I was rejected last season from PCOM and I interviewed in Jan...and yes I am instate...and yes I think I am a very confident interviewer)

no disguise, although i wish it was... 🙁 🙁 🙁 just trying to give him advise as he has given me. i dont think i have a chance anymore...not too sure although me and him have similar stats...both with a 25 mcat.

sure it is getting pretty late, but don't get too discouraged. PLENTY of people accepted change their mind and go elsewhere. There was movement off the waitlist last year even up until a few days before orientation. I'm not sure how many though. And keep in mind there are people accepted out there who haven't committed themselves to PCOM yet. They are definitely still giving out acceptances

Oh and P.S. sounds like far more than enough LOR's. I don't even think I sent my D.O. LOR to PCOM

Uh.. I wouldn't send so many. 5-6 is generally the maximum.

That said, if your friend gets waitlisted, they should call the office and ask if it is okay to send a more recent LOR. If the office says that they can accept it, then go ahead.

I would send the letter if the DO is a PCOM alumnus. Otherwise, everything is pretty much covered. I had a lot of LORs I feel and it didn't come off poor, but I think what was sent is enough.

May I ask what your stats were Bacchus and Rugger14? I dont know if I should email PCOM about my status? My friend and I have similar MCAT and very similar GPA. He does have more extra-currics and has lived in Philly his entire life, and he also went to undergrad in Philly.

The Philly residency is pretty significant and will definitely work in his/her favor!
