Hello,

Many of the schools I am applying to do not stipulate who exactly to get LoRs from. However, many around SDN and the internet say that 2 science professors and 1 non science is the way to go.

I am not following this rule - is this a problem? I am getting 1 from a science prof (meh letter), 1 from an MD who taught a course, 1 from my PI, and 1 from a dean who was mentor for a student org I am a part of. I am thinking of adding another letter from another administrator who was mentor for another club, and 1 have one decent one from an international organization I volunteered with.

Will these letters suffice? My thinking was that it is better to get letters from people that actually know me rather than random professors who I have talked to 2-3 times in a 500 person lecture

Letters are always better from those you have a personal connection to, such as your PI. You always want to try your best to get somebody who knows you well, because that will only make them passionately write about you when it comes time.

At the same time, do not try to create some superficial relationship with a professor for the sole purpose of getting a letter. It seems like you have a lot of options of letters, so try to get 3-4 solid letters from those you think know you the most and will write the best letters as a result.
