I'll apply next year. In the past few years of my undergrad career, there was no single prof I've consistently stayed in touch with for more than a semester (which was while taking their course), though I frequently visited their office hours while taking their course. Ideally one should ask a prof who knows him/her really well over a long period of time with a relationship history of like 1+ year, but should I be worried that my situation is far from ideal? I still have a year left so I can spend this last year trying to get to know LOR profs. My LOR writers will probably be upper-level profs who know me for less than a year. They will mainly know me through my frequent visit to their office hours and my getting an A in their class. But would this be enough for them to be able to write me a great LOR?

Maybe you could be a TA for a semester though, or do some research. These are ways of getting good LORs. But if you don't want to, the PhDs will still write you good LORs for medical school. They write lots of them, it is their job.

Thanks for the post. I'll definitely look into TAing. As for research, I'll be doing it anyway for my honors degree.

Do research with a prof that you took a class with and you can count them as a science prof.
