When asking for letters of recommendation for this cycle, when should we tell our writers to have them submitted by? Most schools don't require LORs until the secondary app, which is usually later on. So should I have my writers submit them by the date i want to submit my primary app or give them more time? Thanks

Tell them to submit it ASAP. Plan early, even before you submit your primary. I know some professors get too busy and forget about you. If you give them too long a time, they'll forget and you'll have to constantly remind them, politely of course.

Give them two months to write a letter. It is pretty reasonable time for them to write one. Send them reminder emails every two weeks or so until they write a letter.

I agree with mathnerd88, it is imperative you get your letters submitted as early as possible and stay on top of your professors. I had a holdup with one of my letters and I wasn't complete until December, even though I submitted my secondaries back in July. It didn't kill my cycle, but I was really cutting it close.

How are we supposed to submit the letters if we don't have an AMCAS or AACOMAS ID yet for the cycle since the application hasn't opened yet?

Your advisor can submit them to Interfolio and then when you get your AACOMAS/AMCAS ID you can forward it to them and they will take care of the rest.

Some schools may not use Interfolio anymore since AACOMAS is accepting letters and it is less work for them. You should check with the schools so you don't cause your writers more work.
