What happens if you send more letters of recommendation than a school's max? I already locked in my LORs on my primary application and I just realized that several of the schools I applied to won't take as many as I sent. Should I email them, apologize for sending too many, and tell them which ones to review? Or does it work another way? Help!

This seems to be school specific, and ADCOM/reader specific. Some may not even notice, others may only read the first x number of LORS and disregard the others, or they could pick the ones that meet the requirements, and some schools may toss your application for failing to read the directions (this seems less likely, but there could be someone on staff that takes this approach as it could be the proverbial last straw).

What would tell them?
I am so sloppy and oblivious that I didnt carefully read your requirements?
I am such an arrogant fool that I know you will just love to read all the great things that people write about me?
I am just a idiot and here let me point out my mistake in case you didnt notice it?

Let sleeping dogs lie and keep your mouth shut

It's a sign that you either can't follow simple instructions, or are such a special snowflake that you believe the rules don't apply to you.
