Hi,

So I am all ready for applying to Neurology Residency this year (have been working on my way to this since last 1-2 year). I have one question. Any help on it will be highly appreciated as I am really confused about it and I need to make a final decision.

I have got 2 US Neurology Professor LOR, 1 Non-US Neurology LOR (where i worked for many months in Neurology) and 1 Non-US Medicine LOR (my medical school Professor).

I am working on an inter-disciplinary research project in Neurology. From here I have an opportunity to get an LOR from the collaborating Biomedical Informatics Professor.

I am reasonably confident that he will give me a decent/good enough, even if not awesome, research LOR.

So my question is that should I go ahead and replace one of my Non-US Neurology/Medicine LOR with this US research LOR? Will a Neurology research project specific LOR from Biomedical Informatics US Professor be considered positive by Neurology PDs ?

Please advice. Thanks in advance.

Go with the strongest letter (but keep the neurologists!). Quite frankly, what is going to impress a PD more is your publication record from that research rather than a LoR. If the non-US Neurology/Medicine letter is a strong one, and the Biomedical one is lukewarm, you are better off with the strong letter, and of course vice-versa. Bottom line, you want STRONG letters - lukewarm ones degrade the quality of your application.

Thanks a million for replying.

I am quite confident that Bio-medical Informatics Professor's letter will be a good one.

One more development which has take place is that I will get my second US Neurology LOR late or may never get it.

So, here is my current plan is to send following right now -

For Cat Neurology - US Neurology LOR + US Research LOR + Non-US Neurology LOR

For Prelim - US Neurology LOR + US Research LOR + Non-US Medicine LOR

Please advice.
