Worth including if it mentions nothing but my character? Really has nothing to add about my ability as a student besides highlight my mcat and SMP which adcoms will see anyway. I'm a bit ambivalent

Yes worth including but only for schools that seem open to additional letters OR letters from non-science faculty. Don't send to a school that only wants strictly not that type of letter.

It's going to be going to a committee packet which attaches the individuals. My concern is that the letter mentions a school (his alma mater), and I'm not sure if that is the sort of thing adcoms would like to see

Depends on how he mentioned it. If he said "X school" would be perfect for him because I went there and he's just like me... then yeah definitely not. But if he signed it under his name, it's a non-issue.

I'm honestly not well versed on the committee packet business, though, so hopefully someone else can help you with that. 🙂
