Hi all,

I have a quick question about my LORs. I have been working on an involved neuroscience project during my undergrad degree for almost a year with a graduate student in my lab. At the same time, the PI in this lab knows me very well and has been my instructor in courses.

I think that both of them know me well and both of them could write me very good letters, and their content would be sufficiently different. While obviously the PI's letter will carry more weight, it seems like a missed opportunity not to ask my grad student colleague for one. Is it alright if I ask them both for letters? Is it weird if my PI writes a letter and cosigns the letter that the grad student writes as well?

Thanks!

The LOR from the grad student will be worthless. What's s/he going to say, that you were diligent in the lab, and had good lab skills? We're looking for people who want to be doctors, not PhD students.

What if my application is heavily research based and I talk about my project in my PS? Since he has worked me with so closely, he knows me in a person "personal" sense than my PI and can also speak of my personality more.

(Whereas the PI knows me mostly by my research work itself, but I do not directly work with him)

You obviously want to you use it so go ahead. But why ask if you don't want an appropriate and useful answer. @Goro is faculty/ADCOM at a DO school and gave you good advice. But in the end it's your decision.

Good way to get rejected. Again, why not apply to grad school?
