I am about to complete a sub-I during which I spent 3 full days in clinic working 1 on 1 with a well-regarded attending. On the last day we worked together in clinic he told me that he thought I was outstanding, that I integrated myself better into his clinic then many of the residents, and to "please let me know if you ever need anything".

Would this be an appropriate LOR writer from this rotation (my intended specialty)? It just feels unusual to me since I have known my other likely letter writers for > 1 year, but with the way our 4th year rotations are set up, 3 days 1 on 1 in clinic is about the maximum time I can expect working with a particular attending.

Thanks!

Yes, definitely get it. Obviously specialty-dependent, but for smaller specialties (from my own app experience) letters should be a combo of writers who know you well + positive letters from prominent people in the field. At the very least get the LOR submitted to ERAS and then when time for app submission comes around you can decide whether/where you want to send his LOR.
