I can either obtain a letter of recommendation from a general dentist that I shadowed or a prominent oral maxillofacial surgeon that I also shadowed. I am close to both but someone said I should use the letter from the general dentist for my application because it would look better than a specialist to dental schools. I already have three letters from professors because that is what my state school requires. Should I just ask both and submit 5 letters to AADSAS or is that too much? Thanks

Either one would be fine. As long as it's a strong letter.

Get the letter from the general dentist. Adcoms want people who know about general dentistry and would be happy as a general dentist.
