Hello SDN,

Most dental schools require 2 letters of recommendation from science faculty. My question is if they have to be professors that have taught you in at least one class. I am asking because I have two professors I would like to have LORs from where one is my research adviser and the other is the adviser to the club that I am an executive of. However, neither of these professors has taught me in a class. Would letters from these professors cover the requirement or should I just ask professors that have taught me? Am I going to have to call each school that I want to apply to individually about this?

Best to go with professors who have given you a grade.
Ex: UMich: "For a letter of recommendation to be considered as a science letter, it must be written by an instructor who has taught you in a science course (preferably a basic science course) and given you a letter grade. This information must be included in the letter."

Look at what schools you are applying to and their individual requirements. Or just be safe with 2 science profs who have given you a grade, a dentist letter, and then save an extra letter of rec from one of your advisers if you think they'd write a glowing LOR.
