Hi, my question is about my letters of recommendation. My uncle is a pharmacist and the pharmacy director at the hospital that I volunteered at a lot this summer. I spent over 100 hours this summer volunteering in the pharmacy under him, so he would be a good reference who would be able to speak to my character, ability, and interest in the field. The problem is that he's my uncle; does that mean I cannot use him for a rec letter? We do not have the same last name, and we're not actually related by blood since he married my mother's sister. The school's application page said LoRs should not be from family members, but I was not sure if this included extended family, etc

What I would do if I were you is just have him do the LOR and indicate he's a pharmacist and leave it at that. His letter should just talk about your abilities to work and shouldn't mention your relationship. If the last name's are different there is no way they'll no.

That may be bad advice but thats just me.
