I was wondering what combination of reference letters I should send. So far I have one general letter, and one psychiatry letter which I know is strong. I've requested another psychiatry letter as well as as letter from my supervisor whom I worked with during my research year.

Do you guys think I should send a second psych letter or the research letter?

Here is what matters: How you did in school, your scores, where you went to school, (These are not 1,2, and 3, these are 1,2,3, and 4,5, and 6), then extra stuff you did, then your letters as far as having at least 3 and one of them being from a psychiatrist, then (and way down the list), a personal statement that is in English and shows you can spell something. Letters and personal statements are fairly perfunctory in that you have to have them, but they seldom stand out. When they do stand out, it is more likely very negative than positive.

Send the research letter to more research-oriented programs, send the clinical psych letter to the ones that have minimal research interests, and send both to the programs that will let you send 4.
