Do MD-PhD applicants need a non science LOR? From looking at program websites I couldn't find anything specific, most simply state something along the lines of wanting letters from all research mentors or letters than address scientific potential.

I'm currently putting together my application and trying to decide how best to proceed. I have an instructor in a humanities class that agreed to write a letter, however its likely to be a standard letter whereas my research letters should be much more positive.

TLDR: Do MD-PhD applicants need non science LORs and if so, how important are they?

When I was applying this past year, a couple of the schools I applied to requested letters that fulfilled the MD requirements (including a humanities letter). You'll likely be okay, but I would double-check the schools that you are considering applying to in order to make sure that a humanities letter will not be required.
