I had a professor for general chemistry who I really got along with and he knew me well. I ended up doing very good in his class. I was wondering if asking him for a LOR would be stupid since I only had him for a quarter and its only gen chem? Any advice would be great.
Thanks

If he knows you well and you know he can write a good letter, go for it.

If he is willing to write a good one for you, there is no harm in getting it. If you decide against it, you might find that you could've used it in the future.

I think it would be fine, especially if you were well acquainted with him. I actually just spoke with my gen chem 2 teacher about a letter, even though I just took it during the summer so only had him for a little over 2 months, and he was actually really enthusiastic about it. I'd say ask him sort of conservatively.. something along the lines of "if you would perhaps be willing to consider.." rather than just "would you write me..", so that if he doesn't feel comfortable he'd be more comfortable saying so. But otherwise, go for it 😉

well, if you say he knows you well, that's prob better than most of your profs (even ones you've had longer than 1 qtr), right? i don't think the length of the class really matters as long as he's still able to address issues such as your work ethic, dedication, and personality. what i've always read is that you should ask ppl if they think they're able to write you a "strong" letter of rec. if they're not, they'll say so. if they say they can, then they'll prob do it 😉
anyway, as long as he can write you a "good" rec, then you might as well get it to put in your credentials file. at the very least, it can supplement some of your others.
