I need to have my letters of recommendation resent to this one program that wants them to be dated within the last six months. They were actually written back in March. My question is would it be acceptable to just email the individuals that wrote the letters and request that they change the date of the letter before sending the copy on. In particular I would like to know what to do about postage. I graduated last year and I am no longer in the vicinity of my school. I would like to give them a pre-addressed and pre-stamped envelope but that is not a possibility. Is it asking too much to have them address the envelope and pay for the postage.

When I ask my recommenders to send letters to another school, they open up the file, change the address to the new school, and change the date to today. I'm guessing your people would do it the same way, but it wouldnt hurt to mention it.

Also, skip the envelopes. It's better to have the letters come in official departmental envelopes. And I'm sure their departments send them too, so they prolly don't pay for the postage themselves.
