Hi!
First time poster, longtime lurker here!
I am a soon to be MS4 and I had a quick question. During 3rd year I was lucky enough to have honored OB/GYN and Family Medicine. The clerkship directors offered to write a strong LOR on my behalf without my asking🙂. I accepted and from what I understand, the letters have already been written and sent to the registrar's office until it is time for me to officially apply through ERAS.
However, my problem is this: up until a little while ago, I had set my sights set on pursuing Family Practice. But now I am strongly considering EM. My question is whether I should contact the letter writers to let them know I will likely change my mind about Family Med so that they can write new letters, or should I leave it be, and use these letters as they are (I am sure they are very strong) and then just explain myself on the interview trail.
I just don't want to piss off my letter writers...I think part of the reason they actually offered to write a letter in the first place was the fact that so few students actually have shown a genuine interest in FM at my school. I almost fell like a "*****" going back to them now telling them I am considering something else!
