Can a LOR from a professor who eventually became your PI count as a LOR toward your required LORs from professors? Would it count as both?

Can a LOR from a professor who eventually became your PI count as a LOR toward your required LORs from professors? Would it count as both?

Did the professor teach a class you were in before? I'm sure he/she would mention that in the letter. But yes, I would say it counts as both a letter from a sci professor and research PI.

In general, if you took a class from them, it can count as both. There are a few schools *cough* Harvard *cough* that will only count it as one or the other.
