I think there are a couple programs that require 2 anesthesia LORs. I would check out the websites of the programs you're interested in to be sure. If not, then I would prob go with 1, 2, 4, and 5. If 2 are required then, 1, 2, 3 and 4 or 5 (really seems like a toss up and probably wont make a huge difference either way).
Why four letters? Don't most programs ask you for three?
I am assigning letters to programs as we all submit on Saturday.
I am starting to get confused which four letters to submit:
1. Chief of Infectious Disease letter that should be incredibly personal, includes time with research and clinical, and we have a very strong mentor/mentee relationship. Def want to submit this one.
2. Anesthesiologist - Peds Anesthesiologist - Asst. Professor. She should write a very strong letter, and I submitted an abstract with her also, so she might speak to that - I'm not sure, but she likes me a lot. Def submitting this one.
3. Anesthesiologist - an MD/PHD I worked with on rotation, and he doesn't know me that well, but I know he wrote a good letter. He offered to write one for me, actually. He's pedigree-trained, and he's a very nice guy. Unsure if I need this one, but I certainly have attached it to some programs right now for sure.
4. Chief of Peds Surgery - he was also my clerkship director, and I've heard he writes fantastic and very personal letters. He knows me pretty well, because he's definitely given me advice, and he consulted with me on my personal statement. Want to submit this one, but see my next one...
5. Chief of Trauma Services/Trauma Surgeon and Critical Care - I want to be a ACC academic doc. This letter was from my Sub-I. This guy liked me so much he asked if I was sure I didn't want to switch to surgery - he wanted to keep me. Super flattered. Def want to submit this one....
6. OB/GYN Community Medicine preceptor - Amazing preceptor, and he knows me very well. He knows my clinical experience and I know he wrote a strong letter.
So I can't submit 6 letters, and that is ridiculous anyway. So which four do I submit? what do programs want to see?
I am applying to top tier...my home school has no anesthesia residency program, so I don't have a program chair or anything, but I have chief letters etc.
Help and guidance?
Is that a serious reply? No, not at all. I'm trying to make good decisions on my letters.
I've never once made a snarky post or tried to brag. I'm trying to do the best I can with ERAS and do a good job. Not sure why you took the time to write that. Most of us just want to do well in match.
