Hey Guys,

Most schools say you are required to have three letters (2 science and one non-science from Vandy for example), so are we allowed to send more if we want to or do they only want exactly three?

I think it depends on the school. Some say "more letters are welcome" and others say "we will not consider additional letters." Just call and ask I guess.

When do you send these LORs? is it in secondaries?....if so, lets say you have about 20 -30 schools that your applying to, do you really need 3x(20 to 30) LORs??? sorry im just confused with the application process...

My pre-med committee sends out the same package to every school, including their committee letter and the five letters used to support it. No matter what's asked for by the individual med school. So far, that hasn't been a problem. I suspect they just toss the letters they don't want to read.

It'll become obvious when the time comes. Typically, they are sent at around the time of your secondaries, but not by you - in most cases, your undergrad will offer either a pre-med committeee or at least a letter forwarding service to handle the process. Usually there's a nominal fee per school for distributing your letters. If your undergrad doesn't do it, there are commercial services available for letter distribution. In either case, your LOR writers send their letters in to the service which collects and distributes them according to your instructions.

I'm doing the same thing...My school is sending my composite letter with the other supporting letters and I am just going to send that out to all schools regardless of what they are asking for. They can deal with it however they please.
