LOR - Too Short?

Hi,

I just received a copy of the LOR my volunteer coordinator wrote for me. It's only 155 words. Isn't this too short for an LOR? The content is good, but should I even use it if it's so short? How long would a good LOR be?

My committee letter is 3 pages long, but it is confidential so I don't have access to it, except to see it is 3 pages on interfolio. But I figure, that if it the committee hated me, they probably wouldn't go on for 3 pages of insults; well that 's what I'm hoping.
IMO, a short but good letter is a keeper. It's hard for reviewers to read and read and read, I'm sure.
I'm pretty sure that letters are good at least for one year if not longer, because re-applicants will sometimes choose to use to use the letters again.

A page is good. 155 words is rather brief. Quantity doesn't beat quality but you do need some quantity for quality.

I don't think you're supposed to be allowed to read the letters. I think medical schools prefer confidential letters. As for the length, yes that's very short. However, if you already have all of your bases covered as far as 2 science 1 non-science, then go ahead and include that letter, it can't hurt if the content is good as you say. Again, however, you're not supposed to read them!

I'm pretty sure there's no rule against reading your LORs if your letter writer asks you to. What you waive is the right to view your letter, which means you cannot demand to see your letter if the writer doesn't want you to read it. However if they ask or intend you to read it there's nothing wrong.
